Question Remote Start/Alarm with manual tranny/security system?

Ok, I have a crimestopper remote start system with alarm from my old prelude sitting at home. I was going to sell it, but I'm starting to think it'd be pretty cool to have in my WRX. Only prob is, it was not made for a manual tranny. I don't think it would be too hard to rig up to some sort of "neutral sensing switch", however it is the matter of said switch i'm not sure of. Is there anything like this already installed in the car? Something that will produce a current if it is in neutral or is in gear, before the engine starts? Also, has anyone done this with the upgraded security system? The unit has an alarm, although if it is possible to use the factory one with the remote start system, I'd prefer that.
Thanks!
Chris

there is no nss in the car. you need to add one. They run about $100 and you can get them from stinger/aamp, but I'm not sure if they are sold to the public or not (i used to work for an alarm install shop). Basically they wont let you remote start the car if it's not in neutral. You can put the remote start on without it, but it is not recommended becase I know someone who accidently put their car through their garage door. As far as just adding on a remote start to the factory one, DEI makes one. They run you about $199 installed or so and it would use the factory remotes. However, you would be limited to the range of the stock remotes which usually are only a couple hundred feet. HOpe that helps!

the 5 speed wrx has a Neutral Position Switch. If the vehicle is left in gear a low voltage ground signal can be detected. This is too low for typical 12 volt relays to use. I'd suggest using a low voltage relay or tap this wire to the Hood Pin Input with a diode. When you try to remote start the car while it's in gear the remote start unit will think the hood is open and prevent the vehicle from being remote started or will shut down the remote start sequence when someone tries to put the vehicle into gear w/o turning off the remote start.
