I have a wideband and at WOT my AFRs are for 10.3 to 10.6. I Am more concerned with it knocking than I am running rich or lean. The last tune I got was for Cali 91 oct. and I am now in an are that has 92 oct available. It made 270 whp with 260lbs of torque on a DynoCom dyno with a correction factor of .80. Do you think I could make more power reliably? It has an intake, 3-port EBCS, and 3" turbo back exhaust.

if your not already at 21psi then a retune for more boost and higher octane may help. 270-280 seems normal for what you have done.

It is tuned for 18psi. Would a cat in the exhaust system kill power?

I would go with a highflow cat if possible since your in ca unless u can get away with catless. Its about a 10whp difference at most between catted and catless. I would def do some more mods and get tuned for 21psi.

While we're on the subject of exhausts... is the JDM v8 axleback section same as USDM ones... only the downpipe and midpipes are of different lenghts? My swap will come with an JDM length aftermarket DP, so I was wondering if I can make it fit by just extending the midpipe of my Autospeed 3" unit. Thanks for any input fellaz!

ok it's that time now...

I like buying OEM parts rather than the "gates" kit due to the paper gaskets and I like seeing subaru boxes... LOL. if I can save money though... might buy gates kit since I know the water pump is supplied by gates anyway.

what size is my version 7 oil pump? is it the standard size or do I need the larger one?

I know this doesn't matter but can I purchase new engine code stickers and the japanese writing on it... yes LOL. it matters (to me anyway LOL)

I can purchased the cosworth timing belt guide.. .are they the same for the ej20 and the ej25? should be just making sure.

the cover belt guides... do they need replacing.. maybe the question is should i replace them since i'm there?

I purchased the covers and spark plug gaskets from ebay already in subaru bags. just waiting for them.

thanks for the part numbers... those are the same ones that I purchased.

13270AA152, 13272AA075, 13293AA051

rallispec is quite expensive.

I need the timing belt part numbers... I have them somewhere. just don't know where I put them LOL

EDIT: found my list of part numbers from my EJ205 wondering if they're the same:

This is the cheapest I've seen the Gates Racing Belt kit : eBay link , the only thing I got from the dealership was the waterpump gasket, as the gates one is supposedly not as good. I got my valve cover and spark plug gasket set from ebay too... i believe the seller is also a NASIOC vendor (Djsubaru ?)

Also another alternative to the Cosworth belt guide is the Tomei one, which is definitely cheaper... i ordered one from Rallysportdirect.

thanks, I believe the part number I posted earlier 13028AA200 was superseded by the one you posted of 13028AA240. 4th revision I believe.

true, the tomei one is made for the EJ207 vs the cosworth one which maybe made for the ej257

thanks for the link... it is super cheap! however...the shipping is $125 to me =\

I think I'll order from rallysportdirect cause I'm going to buy the tomei guide too

EDIT: maybe not since they only offer the gates racing kit (including water pump) for 2005 2.0L vs the regular timing belt kit with water pump for the wrx/sti

what changed in 2005 to make it not compatible with the 2002 WRX?

CRAP!

maybe I'll just order the EJ205 gates regular kit and OEM metal gasket for the water pump that way I won't have an issue... does anyone know if the bearings that are used in the gates kits are of same quality. I read somewhere that it's single bearing vs dual bearing? grr

most likely the catalog says its not compatible because the 02 wrx had a shorter bolt for the idler pulley. The newer redesigned pulley works but you need the longer bolt.

I found the "gates racing timing belt kit w/water pump Subaru WRX 200-2003" on rally sport direct now for $363.69 vs $307.82 for the regular.

If its the bolt... Couldn't I use the bolt from the old tensioner?

The weird thing is that the one that fits the 05-07 WRX and 04-07 STI in the racing version is about $10 cheaper. Why? LOL must be more than a bolt though.

Quality of parts for sure. Lol.

Factory cat will kill some, aftermarket / 3" high flow won't drop much power at this level of flow.

its not the tensioner pulley, its the smooth idler pulley that is to the upper right of the tensioner that usually seizes up IIRC. When i re did my belt i used the 04 STi bolt part 800708460, according to opposedforces.

There is a thread somewhere here that shows the physical differences. One member just took the original bolt to his local ace hardware, found a longer bolt and cut it to size.

according to rallysportdirect the difference between the two kits are the quality of parts being offered.

let me look for that thread

EDIT: searched and found it: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1218848

Yeah, i just went and found a Grade 8 bolt that was long enough and used that. Otherwise you're left with about 2-3 threads.

i'm getting confused here... the bolt that we are referring to is the belt tensioner bolt for the pulley that sits on the right side of the auto belt tensioner. this is affecting which kits?

if I purchase the kit for a 2002-2003 WRX that should suffice? - normal size bolt?

I thought this only applied to the "STI" kit that only fits 2.0L 05-07 WRX and 04-07 STI - longer bolt required?

This is the one I ordered plus the Tomei guide and Grimmspeed crank pulley removal tool. According to the thread, most of the knowledgable people recommended getting the STi kit. Will be installing it in next Monday/ Tuesday.

Right. Why would the "STI" version be cheaper than the WRX one for our year specifically. What was the reason they recommended it?

TCKWP328RB - STI
TCKWP328ARB - WRX (02-03)

the bolt refered to is for component A,

To simplify, just look for timing components for an 04 Sti. The timing component part numbers superceed the earlier designs. The belts for the wrx vs Sti are physically the same but manufacturers may suggest the Sti specified belts are built with stronger materials. The Gates Blue racing series is the strongest one out there.

Thanks. I understand. If I get the STI (cheaper kit) this will have the stronger components even if the WRX one is slightly more expensive and has the same or similar belt? I'd rather not deal with a bolt issue when I'm in the middle of timing my engine you know?
