What is a 'most Supra buyers price range'? I know my line up is made up of cheap sport compacts because that is what I like, but I think I can afford a $80-90K Supra if released..

My next car is going to be most likely a new RC-F to get a real Toyota in my line up. That's a $85K car.

I'd say most people, especially now-a-days, buy cars at the tippy top of what banks allow them to (note: markedly different from what I think are good rules of thumb for what you can actually afford), and for convenience we can make it a range of 10k. Ergo, I'd say "most" supra buyers' price range is 50-60k, pre-TTL.

I see.. that is not a healthy way to buy, especially not a toy like the Supra that gets a lot of attention (unwanted attention at stores, etc).

I got a bargain on my Supra Premium with about $7K off MSRP in April. I just paid cash at just under $60K OTD. I have high sales tax in my area so that is why I might have paid more than others in other parts of the country.

I agree with you RE cars AND houses. My wife and I bought our first house a couple years ago and I was shocked at what the bank and real estate agent were suggesting was "affordable" based on my salary. It's no wonder that so many people lack sufficient savings to retire.

Supra will die due to lack of interest after the 5yr joint build with BMW.
You can get easy $5k off msrp and I bought an A91. Its a great car that highly misunderstood. The ZF 8psd is great auto and super reliable mated to the best straight six turbo out there.The legendary Supra (made legendary by movies and tuners) was a GT car and quite soft and early 90s they could not well them or the Z Turbo at the $45+K cost (equal to $79k today) makes this current car a bargain. I wonder how many people aren't buying it because of the auto only? Additionally, I wonder if the implementation of the BMW engine is making people stay away? Basically, why isn't it selling?

I’d be interested in knowing the sales figures of other two seat semi-expensive sports cars. That’s not typically (outside the corvette, a high selling segment. They also tend not to sell well over time.

Supra just sold 1K cars in the US alone last month. In fact they will likely run out of inventory soon.

Toyota also stopped offering rebates and incentives on the Supra due to demand in June and you likely may not see many more incentives until the weather turns.

Yeah, that commercial could have been better. I mean, I know what they were going for but they just didn't pull it off. I feel like they were going for a cross between this parody video:

Also agree that the market this year is wacky. However, the 2020 sales numbers are more representative (IMO) and that year they easily beat the stated target of 5K units.

The people buying a manual these days aren't doing it to pinch pennies, especially if they're shopping for a BMW. They're doing it because they want a manual. And they want it in whatever trim they want it, not only some dumbed down pleb version. definitely strategized.

I actually agree with this, but not from a cost perspective. Porsche is pretty masterful at this in some of their releases. Sure, they offer a stick, but the gearing is so suboptimal that you either need to swap a new gear cluster (amazingly people actually do this on new/nearly new cars), deal with the weird gearing, or just buy the properly geared much more plentiful PDK.

BMW charges less for a manual trans than the DCT /ZF. Not sure where you got that info.

I'm glad the Supra is selling. Their head honcho said he'd consider offering a manual if the auto sold well (odd logic, but I get why).

Honda f'd with the Accord sport manual by only offering it in black and gunmetal. Let's take the rarest option and sell it in one color that most people don't want, and one color some people want. I think the last few years were black only.

It has. People panicked all last year because they can’t handle change, even limited. Now it’s “I made it, I lived! I’m buying something!”. The sad part will be when people give up their dogs they purchased during the pandemic. Even some friends of mine kind of pissed me off because I knew they were getting over their heads getting a puppy. They live in relatively small places and got these medium to large dogs once they're fully grown. And they get frustrated at them for stuff that are just puppy things. Even just taking them out for walks exhausts the owners...

I would've rather they just bought appliances instead of a living thing.
