Favorite = 3 inch straight pipe

Favorite that is less likely to get you a ticket = Prodrive Oval Tip or SPT

I've had 3 catbacks...

Espelir JGT500 Catback- Got pulled over for it for being loud and they just gave me a warning for it. My favorite catback out of the 3 because of its aggresive sound. I had to let it go because so many idiots around the HR wants to race me. Also comes with a silencer but with a silencer on, it sounds stock and it beats the meaning of having the "rumbling" tone of the car.

SPT (Bosal)Catback- My least favorite. It looks ugly and does not look like it belongs on the car. I also got pulled over for it and got a warning to remove it by VA Beach cops. I told them its a factory replacement and I even showed them a catalog from Subaru but still gave me a warning to remove it. This exhaust gets loud specially running a catless system.

Borla Hush Catback- Dual Tip FTW!! Stock looking and the exhaust sound is not too aggressive. If running catless, it might get louder but as of now, I still have a 3rd cat mated on it with a Strumong downpipe so it still has the rumble but on a quieter tone. The cops hasn't pulled me over it (had for 2 years and running strong/ knocking on wood).

If I was not living in Va Beach, I'll still keep my Espelir Exhaust. My only advice is to go to meets and check out other catback systems. There are many good exhaust systems out there and it is only up to you to prefer which one suits you best.

My two favorites are Prodrive and Hayward & Scott (who made the original "ScoobySport," which no longer exists - ScoobySport UK was bought out a few years ago; shortly before that the exhausts switched manufacturers, to a company called JANspeed).

I think if you want to pay a crapload, go with a full system from H&S. Or pay even more, get a Fujitsubo from Japan. Lots of people love those. If you get a high-flow cat, make sure you have a (preferably long) resonated midpipe, however. Helps to keep the sound low/deep instead of merely obnoxious.

On the other hand, lots of people like Subaru's 3.0" SPT exhaust. I also like Stromung exhausts for their sound, as well as MadDad.

So va beach cops are that bad huh? Never realized that myself. If I do get a loud exhaust maybe I can get away with it by just pushing in the clutch everytime a cop rides by

btw thanks for all the links

Nope! Seriously, I did good for a bit...but once I got one ticket I started getting alot of attention and more tickets. I even got pulled over twice within 40 minutes (they can still technically give you a ticket )

+1 for the scoobysport...and the Espelir was my favorite "loud" exhaust, before I knew Scooby_Wooby, I knew his car because of that exhaust. Unfortunately, the po-po around here think only Mustangs can have loud exhausts. My gf's old GT was straight piped and gave me a headache..never got a ticket or even a second look!!!

Like Ron said though, it is better to hear it in person. Also other factors (cats, headers) and just the car in general can make them sound different IMO.

OP, i used to live in HR, and those guys can attest that i pretty much played musical exhausts.

currently i have a greddy EVO 2 with two resonators. i like it, deep throaty note, but not much highway drone. and it's pretty quiet (relatively speaking)
one ticket with it. maybe because it's a puppy shooter.

prior to that i had a Perrin Twin tip. loud as hell, but i never got a ticket. last i knew HUnterD had it.

before that i had a prodrive oval tip, it lasted about a week, it wasn't loudd enough for me.

and then there was the Scooby sport dual tip 2.5inch. by far my favorite. best tone, no drone and very much not attention attracting from the local law dogs.
no tickets.

I've also had a Helix, very very loud (not as loud as the perrin) but it was a puppy shooter. two tickets with this one.

i think i am missing one or two, i'm old and my memory sucks.

follow unabombers advice, hang out at some meets and listen to what other people have and ask for rides as well. that is the best way to figure out what you like.

you're lucky to be living there, i miss it!
(well, just sometimes....)
