(*SOLVED*) Parasitic draw from SFB No.8 (ABS) - Can't find source!
Car: 2005 WRX, 5MT,
Battery dies after sitting for only 2 days. So I had a 240mA draw when the car was off. Started pulling fuses, and when I pull the 30A SBF No.8 (ABS) fuse, it drops down to 14mA. So I've found my culprit....Here's the problem: I have the wiring diagrams for that system, and I'm not electrician, but I am sort of figuring it out. I plugged the fuse back in and hooked the multimeter up to watch the draw again. I went to the ABSCM&H/U and unplugged that fancy harness, but the draw didn't stop. Then I unplugged the connector at the master cylinder reservoir, but the draw didn't stop. I am trying to find out where else to check. I am seeing that there are relays in line, but I can't find them. Any help would be much appreciated!

edit: my ABS light and BRAKE light are now on as a result of the pulled fuse. They were not on at all if the fuse is in place. (other than being on when the car starts for a second and then turning off)

The ABS light shouldn't be on if things are ok with the system. I suspect there may be something added to that circuit that isn't factory installed. Check under the dash an the hood and see if you can find any mods to the wiring.

There were some gauges installed and removed some time ago, but i do think the wires are still there behind the column. I'll check it out as soon as I can and report back with my findings.

There are some wires, but they are coming from the Stereo wire harness, and as a result, are unaffected by that fuse.
If I pull the audio clock fuse in the cabin, that is where these wires are hooked up to, the draw is still there and clock/radio do not work. Side question: Is the motor relay and valve relay in the ABSCM? And if that's the case, by unplugging the control module, and the draw still being there, then the relays aren't the problem, right? |

Relays by themselves really don't cause a drain problem like this, unless perhaps they happen to have stuck contacts and that isn't a real common issue. If a relay is involved with the trouble it is usually as a result from something turning the relay on when it shouldn't be. By disconnecting the ABS system controller you isolated anything in it and anything it may control.

Ok so all of the aftermarket wiring has been removed. It was attached only to the stereo wiring harness.
I still have the draw. I have all of the dash panels removed, so now would be a good time for suggestions. |

To make sure there isn't a problem with the alternator remove the rear connector to it and the main output cable and isolate them from ground. Then see if that changes anything. The main cable is hot to the battery so you should remove the battery ground connection before you disconnect it from the alternator.
If the alternator isn't causing the trouble then check the wiring in the fuse panel that ties to SBF-8 and see if there is any bridged connection to the wht/red wire. Check the other end of the wire and see if anything ties to it. If you don't find anything then the easiest way to fix this trouble may be to run a new wire and eliminate the problem that way. It seems the connection to the trouble would have to be from an exposed area of the wire harness unless the splice has been hidden inside the harness somewhere. |

Problem Solved:
There was an aftermarket shock sensor from an aftermarket alarm that was grounded to the chassis. I had the aftermarket alarm removed by a professional last Thursday and the draw was still there. Looks like he missed something. Cougar4, Thank you so much for your advice. You kept me going long enough to discover the problem. The sensor was so far jammed up into column, It was hidden really good and i was laying upside-down on the drivers seat trying to take this thing out. I wouldn't have kept looking if it weren't for your advice. |

Hey. I got the Haynes book but I can't find the drawing for the SBF (mine is a 50A) no. 8. I have a .3-.5 amp draw while the fuse is in place. I've searched all over but can't find any drawings for this circuit. I tried starting but it either doesn't turn over or stalls out.

There is no better wiring information than factory manuals. Fuse SBF-8 is tied to the ABS system via a wht/red wire. It is pin 4 on connectors F44 and B61. Those connectors should be above the steering column, under the dash. Look for a 8 pin connector with two rows of 4 pins each.
