You can make it lighter, all of those are with two bulb covers on each. BTW, dont even look at the pictures for the effect, the camera was crappy.

Did you make sure they move freely when gently pushed? Is the ring pushed down? BTW, what was wrong with it?

What did you have to do to fix them, also how off are they? Are you sure you didnt pull the needles off?

Cool keep me posted on how it goes, did you try blowing the shavings out of the gauge with a hairdryer or light PSI on compressor? Or maybe its cold weather?

Take a jewlers screwdriver (the small ones you use on a watch) get in between the ring and needle and push it down. Those two do move a little less freely than the others.

Alright, the fuel should be sorta stiff, if not a small screwdriver try a knife blade to slip the two apart, they have a tendency to stick together. If anyone needs any other help ask.

it wasnt explicitly clear, but is your odometer dead? even with camera issues it looks like theres no light to the trip comp/odo.

is overall light-output (to everything, HVAC, cluster etc) with 2 bulb-doms about the same?

I really like the inexpesive yet challenging nature of this mod, im looking through all the forums to find clock and the other switch light mod solutions too. Prolly will order bulbs later today.

I dont think my odo ever lit up (got car used), thats what sort of braught up this mod,I was taking it apart so see whats up, then got sidetracked to say the least. Then I decided to go for it, and I liked it, had 10 people ask me how I did it and then comes in this tutorial. I had to take it all apart again and take pics, so understandably some of the info may be a little bit off because it was sort of a re-run for me.

I tried the HVAC with one on each, not dark enough for my taste. I dont need light output unless its night, so I put two on, it looks good in the dark. Gerbs said he was having some difficulty with the 04-05 cluster, maybe different lamp placement, so ill try and sort it out with my lab gerbs for the new gen before anyone else tries this (new gen people might want to wait a bit before I sort this out with Gerbs)

Kenji, King Fish and others might want to hold off for a bit.

Also, Ill be on AIM from time to time, so if you have any specific questions just ask me, please no theoretical questions before you take it apart, but if your tried and are having trouble feel free to ask.

Zeker555 - They get really deep orange/red, but with in the day (lights off) they stay yellow and face stays white.

FlynRex - I will intall blue covers and take pic or get pics elsewhere (pending)

I did mine in green--here's how.
1-Drop the steering column to the lowest point to allow the ample slack to move toward you.
2-Insert one flathead screwdriver @ 3 oclock and another @ 9 oclock, behind the thicker bezel lip/ring.
3-Pry the gauge toward you, while simultaneously twisting the screwdrivers to move the rubber housing in the opposite direction. A half inch is all that is needed to free the gauge.
4-Unplug the electrical harness, rotate the bulb and remove it.
5-It will have a blue condom, which I replaced with a 0.12 inch-diam. green one.
6- Pop everything back in place and you have a near perfect match for the green OEM gauges.
Condoms are at parts-express.com (under bulb covers). Send me a self addressed stamped envelope and I'll send you one of mine (PM me 1st).
