Default What is going on with my tr? Please share some input

Hey everyone here is the complete story. I hope there is someone out there who can give me some info because I am stressing out and I just want my car to run as it should.

My current setup is... 06wrx 34k Css tmic, protune, vf39, walbro fp, catted tbe

I installed the vf39 about a month ago and it ran pretty good and boosting what i should. I missed a shift about a couple weeks later and noticed that it was hesitating right at 2500rpm in 2nd and 3rd (ap confirmed pulling timing). This went away later on in the night. About a week later, the performance started to suffer from there. It slowly started to pull more and more timing as i drove it at partial throttle. Full throttle is fine and it still remains to be normal today. My problem is just cruising around city driving. believing it was a tuning issue I had it protuned by Jon and the numbers were good and it felt much stronger for a couple days. Again, the performance started to decline. I took it back to Jon and he thought it might be a leak in the intake, which I found a hole near the turbo inlet. There is no boost leak though as My gauge reads -20psi at idle. I also noticed that the hose clamp had rubber entwined with it from the inlet near the turbo which leads me to believe there is a tear underneath the inlet. The other visible hole is on top.

I sealed the hole with epoxy and reset the ecu. It ran briefly better but then started to pull timing again. I really do not think it is the hole as i made it when I put the turbo in (it did run fine for a while).

I took it back to the shop and someone looked it over and couldn't find any holes as he sprayed brake cleaner throughout everything

I now notice that it does run ok upon first driving it but as a continually drive it gets worse, it just feels more and more sluggish maybe it even sounds different. Also, starting while hot, the rpms dip quite a but almost as if it going to stall.

I bought a perrin turbo inlet off someone on here and they didnt send me all the parts so I am waiting to hear back from them before I can install it.

Remember it only happens while cruising around at partial throttle, it rips on wot.

My conclusion is there is another tear beneath inlet which is causing more air to pass than maf is sensing therefor the car is running lean so it adds more fuel, overcompensating, runs rich, and throws my p0137 cat ineff. code. Also, the motor shakes quite a bit just idling?

If not the inlet, what else could it be?

and to top it off, I have the continual clank from the titek catted dp hitting both the firewall and the crossmembers.

and the occasional screech coming from my front left tire when I reverse, almost like a mouse wheel?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Michael

at those rpms, i wouldn't really be worried about the ecu pulling timing. your motor has little load so it's possible that the knock sensor is picking up some vibration or rattling from somewhere in the engine compartment (your dp hitting the crossmember and firewall possibly?)

see if you can get that rattle fixed and see how the car drives.

the dp only hits once I drive the car for a while, almost as if once it starts to warm up.

The accessport says its pulling timing under dynamic advance

change your plugs recently? I know I had restart idle issues (after driving, then starting the car again soon) and some roughness before I changed my plugs.

Also, the Dp rubbing could be picked up by the knock sensor, which I think has been said already.

Do a pressure test or a smoke test of the intake system, and listel/look for leaks.

My car pulls a slight bit of timing when under normal driving load, but I am troubleshooting a possible vacuum leak as well. As long as it is not under boost, I am not worried. I could be wrong, but I think it is normal to pull timing after a WOT pull.

No matter what, i would take some logs to see what is going on. A wideband would help, to ensure you are within your tuned AFR as well.

I havnt changed my plus but the knock sensor does sounds like it could be a problem?

Is anyone else have a problem with the titek catted dp on their tr hitting?

the pressure test was fine but I will have to look over the intake again

compression test..
lean conditions due to unmetered air from torn inlet hose.
possible engine damage, broken ring lands..
expensive lesson to learn..

this has been said b4...every car is different even though they may be the same, make sense? That said, I also have the Titek catted DP on mine (reg wrx, non-tr) and it doesnt hit the crossmember or anything else...everything works great, just some loud ticking from the injectors being loud in some Subarus

The dp didnt hit before I did the vf39 swap. I didnt think the vf39 would be much bigger at all?
