Subaru may recall quite a few cars for valve spring issues

Has anyone heard of valve spring failures on NASIOC? I haven't.

Interesting... I doubt it would affect my car though. even if it did they may not want to work on it. 241K and climbing on a stock motor.
Granted i was toying with the idea of having it rebuilt from the crank out in the spring. |

I wouldn't panic just yet. Let's wait and see what cars are part of the recall. The FA20DIT versions in the Forester and WRX use different valve springs. I am not sure about the XT but there are plenty of WRX examples approaching or well over 100,000 miles with bolt-ons and stage 2 tunes pushing way more power than factory specs and I have yet to come across a single issue related to this. I am thinking they may extend warranty to 100,000 like they did with the pitch mount.

Yeah agreed. I could careless until it breaks on my car too. I hate going to dealerships anyway.

Doesn't it seem like this would be discussed on forums on a frequent or even a constant basis if it was such a massive issue that it spanned the entire product lineup? And unless this was something like metallurgy failure (which again would seem to be something discussed if systematic), it seems kind of odd that radically different engine platforms from different generations, both FI and NA, are all systematically affected? And if not a systematic metallurgy failure, does that mean the EJ257 has had this issue since 2003 and no one happened to notice?

My FXT is at 65k miles now. I guess I'll hold off on changing the spark plugs...

I got free labor @ 60K for a dealer plug swap when I had the leak-down recall done! It helped soften the intense anger I had over the whole recall / ECU flash and Subaru’s pathetic ball-drop on handling that whole thing.

That’s funny, when I had my new short block installed for oil consumption, they didn’t put new spark plugs in.

Looks like only BRZ and 86 FA20 motors are the ones with this issue.

How would a modified wrx be treated for this recall? would they deny it to or would it still be covered? My car hasnt been to the dealer since new and it is modified. Kind of nervous to have them rip the engine open and fix something that no one complained about.

Mods = SOL. You're on your own. Subaru isn't a fan of supporting modded Subies, no matter how minor they may be.

Are failed valve springs or bent valves an issue with the boosted twins community?
