--URGENT--

I have a '99 Impreza Outback Sport with keyless entry but no factory alarm, however I no longer have the remotes. Recently I replaced my battery and now have my parking lights flashing and the relay click. I've looked for the valet button but can't seem to find anything. I've tried unhooking the battery over night to reset the computer but that did no good.

Am I stuck buying a new remote or is there some other way to fix this?

The reset button is under the dash somewhere, it may have fallen in behind the lower dash. (If it is an OEM setup) Do you have an owners manual? THere is a picture there that shows where it is located and what it looks like. It kinda looks like a wire with a small top hat at the end (when not secured in the dash) See if you can find the hole where it is supposed to go and look for the wires right behind the dash there.

I forget whether you can turn the key 3 times to reset it on your model or not.....

Anyone ever heard of two remotes dying at the same time?

Walked out to the car this morning and the remote was dead. Went back in and grabbed the brand new spare - I had to actually take it out of the bag that it was wrapped in - and that one didn't work either. I opened the door with the key and the alarm turned on, but when I hopped in and started the car it turned off.

It's an 09 model with only about 1k miles on it. Is it even possible for a 2025 battery to die that quickly? Do the sensors inside the car ever go bad or do the key fob frequencies ever get lost?

Question, I have an '05 STi, and I do not have the horn on the strut tower, so I'm gathering that means I only have Keyless on my car. When I lock the car the security light does the blink, pause, blink, etc, but even after I unlock the car the security light turns off for a few seconds then resumes the blink, pause, blink again. It does this whether I open the door or not. Is this normal?

Also pressing the lock button once locks the car, chirps and lights flash. Pressing it again repeats everything, but if I lock it a third time the chirp is replaced with the horn beeping. Is this normal as well?

I read the last 5 pages but didn't see anything regarding these questions.

Open the drivers side door and press and hold unlock on the remote for about 3 seconds.

IIRC, the Sti's all had a security alarm, but not all of them had the shock sensor. (that was an upgrade)

To check to see if you have an alarm, lock the car and wait about a minute. Then open the door with the KEY. If the horn goes off, then you have an alarm. (to stop the alarm, press unlock on the remote)

Depending on how long you wait to start the car, the alarm could reactivate. (Will it start after the light starts blinking again?)

Also....when you lock the car with the remote the first and second time, the lights will flash and it will beep. If you hit it again, the horn will go off...just to let you know it DID lock and arm. This is normal

Well I just tried opening the door with the key and nothing happened, the security light kept blinking at the same rate. I put the key in the ignition and the car started right up. I also tried opening the pass. side door and nothing happened their either.

Is your alarm in valet mode?

According to the blinking light it isn't, it does the blink, pause, blink, pause etc. I will see if I can put it in valet mode to make it blink, blink, pause, blink, blink, etc.

Edit: I tried to put it in valet mode using the instructions in the first post and the security light just keeps blinking the same rate, blink, pause, blink, pause, etc. Nothing changes.

I'm not sure if this is related, but when I first bought the car it only came with one remote. I took it to the dealer to have another remote programmed (didn't know about this thread at the time) and they had a hard time getting it to program because of the turbo timer. The tech said the timer was wired in wrong and he had to make some changes to it. The turbo timer was installed by a previous owner.

I'm gonna disconnect the battery for a few and see if that will reset the alarm or change anything at all.

I had to do a battery Re-relocation back to original spot from the PO putting it in the back. When I connect the Pos. back the alarm goes off and I cant stop it with my key fob. THe key fob actually never worked before this either. Any Ideas? I found no reset button and I dotn wanna piss off my neighbors trying all these different reset methods.

I believe the manual override is to put the key in the ignition and turn the key from off to lock (or on) 3 times quickly.

Have you tried programming the key fob?

Many times. Im guessing either the alarm going offwhile doing it, or my TT is messing with reprograming. Security light is blinking super fast if that means anything..

Im not sure. I did the 10x, open/close door, click button, open close thing..but its not working. I unplugged my horns cause it was P-n off the neighbors so I cant hear the audible beep.

The audible beep isn't from the horn it's from a little electronic thing at the front of the car. Does the electronic chirp ever make noise? If the chirp is broken you can't enter programming mode and it is a fairly common thing to fail.

I spent 2 straight days trying to figure it out and came across that as the problem. I had it replaced (there was a great thread about how to fix it which is just soldering the connection back on) and was then able to program the remotes on the first try

I'd try asking a dealer how much it would be to get one
