Default Update: 2009 Renault Megane leaked

Quote:
Renault’s all-new Megane five-door hatch has been leaked ahead of its official debut planned for next month’s Paris Motor Show. Following the launch of the hatch, ]Renault is set to follow it up with a number of different variants including a new performance model and a long-wheelbase version.

Images of the new range have been circulating around the Internet for the past month following an incident where a number of official images were leaked from Europe’s patents and trademarks office. The latest set of images, from Germany’s AutoBild, reveals that the Megane shares much in common with the previous Megane Coupe Concept as well as the new Laguna.

No official specs have been released but the engine lineup from the current model is expected to carry over largely unchanged. This means that the new Megane should feature a range of petrol engines displacing between 1.6L and 2.0L and developing up to 225hp (168kW) in the turbocharged performance models.

A new 1.4L TCE engine, currently powering the Clio, is also likely to make its way into an entry-level Megane. Delivering a diesel-like 190Nm of torque from its tiny displacement, it’s expected to preserved the sporty feel of the Megane while improving efficiency. Diesel fans will be able to choose from the current 1.5L and 1.9L dCi turbodiesel units, ranging in power from 89hp (66kW) to 178hp (132kW). Direct ]injection appears to be off the table for this round of updates due to cost considerations.

The new range should go on sale in Europe shortly after the car’s debut in Paris next month.

Disgusting. It looks like a Subaru-inspired Nissan Murano.

Hmm... The next generation Nissan Versa is gonna be a lot sleeker than the current version...

Except for the weird crease on the hood, this is pretty god-damned generic. The old Megane was very distinctive (especially from behind). That two-box designs from all the various manufacturers are all converging on the same general shape is probably the effect of ratcheting fuel economy standards worldwide more than everybody copying the Mazda 3...
