Default Protecting Paint Chip from rusting

I've got an eraser sized paint chip on the A-Pillar thats down to bare metal and starting to rust underneath (nothing major).

I don't really care about repairing the paint, but I'd like to prevent further rusting.

Just a dabbing of clear coat? Clear nail polish (I do this on my mountain bike and it works fine enough)?

What do I need to do to prep it?

I have a similiar rock chip on my car, with just a small amount of redish (rust) showing.

I'm planning on getting a fiberglass pen and sanding the small dot, then fill with touch up paint. I am assuming if you do nothing about the rust, it will just spread.

did the exact same thing to a small chip on my passenger door back in '03, and have had no problems since. it's not perfectly matched or anything, but it looks tons better than a rusted hole. a dab of primer first isn't a bad idea either.

What's a fiberglass pen? Paint marker?
