Default What Solution do you use in your IC sprayer!?

I know this has been dealt with before and i've done a search. I just installed a Spec C tank last night with the Quantum racing kit and love it!. i just want to know what you're using for spray.

Distilled Water can be a PITA when you have to re-fill every 3-4 days and can get quite expensive and look somewhat weird when you're buying 10gallons of it every week I don't want the grocery bagger to think im some tighta$$ that only drinks sunnyselect distilled water or has some distilled water fetish.

Anyway, first off tell me what you're using....then tell me in how many parts like a ratio. If you're using something differnt post that too.

BTW: anyone know how to distill water at home... enough to make 12L a week???

Thanks, eric

The water in my area is too hard and left deposits on my IC after the first 12l.

Another member directed me to Walmart 59¢/gal distilled water. I buy about 15 gallons at a time every month. I end up drinking one gallon when I'm too lazy to change the water filter and another for general cleaning.

I guess I go through 12l (3 gal) every week/week and a half depending on how hard I drive - I'm using an Autospeed intellegent IC spray controller instead of a manual switch.

50/50 distilled water and high-grade methanol (I work in a research university and get it through lab stores).

Misread the original post. This is what I use in my water injection. I don't have an IC sprayer.

If you use tap water, the dissolved solids will eventually clog your nozzles. If they are plastic, they will have to be replaced.
If your tap water is very hard, you may be replacing nozzles at about the same interval as putting gas in your car....

CLR IS NOT THE ANSWER!!! Proper water to start with IS.

...but I guess you will find this out the hard way...

Might want to read the label on the CLR container REAL close....

I travel to Antarctica to get the purist glacial ice one can find and then I thaw it on the way back and dump it in my washer-fluid reservoir. If it's inconvenient to drive down there when the reservoir is empty, I just use the water hose.

I believe most people use distilled water, whether you like it or not ... oh wait looked at the poll and most use plain water, but beware of deposits.

then what should i use in order to clean it out now and then? what would you recommend? i plan on using hose water... but i'd like an additive that'll clean out the residue and calcium now and then.

I use RO water (Reverse Osmosis). I bought and installed a 5 stage RO unit from Premiere Water Systems (found at Costco and Sam's club at about $150). It's just $35 every 6 months for new filters. Also, I connected my frige icemaker to it and get great tasting ice and water (for cooking, drinking, etc).

From your "Hard Water WRB" using your 'hose water' is the wrong choice for your IC spray system.
'Planning' on using the wrong water scource and then trying to fix it later with something like CLR is not the way to do it.
Either buy bottled distilled water or buy and use a system like tk_1971 describes or you will have problems.
What part of this don't you understand?

Distilled water from Walmart. About 50 cents an gallon.

Blue washer fluid from Walmart. About a dollar a gallon.

Vary ratio from 100 water to 100 winter formulation washer fluid on local freezing sequence. The freezing point depression of the washer fluid is due to methanol (methyl alcohol or wood alcohol).

You can use isopropanol (rubbing alcohol) but it is not quite as effective as methanol.

I use about 1 to 1 water/washer fluid right about now in Maryland. The system has 12 fine misting nozzles and they did fine on the distilled water in the summer. I don't have enough data on the washer fluid yet. So far, so good.

I've got an Auto switch that arms this controller:

It works exactly as advertised.
