Why are people in a hurry to get money back? That's what I read, but I really can't believe that that's what you meant to type.

$4858 coming in the Brinks truck.
Claim as single / no dependents, but file as HOH and one dependent. I like getting the money back at the beginning of the year since my income is heavily impacted by overtime during the construction season (March - November). I don't use the money for anything, and makes the couple months of normal salary between the holidays and construction season easier to stomach. |

I got my paper W-2 in the mail the other day. Isn't showing up online yet. The rate limiting step still is Betterment, which will open up TurboTax import on Feb 15, 2019. |

Read this morning that IRS employees are being allowed to stay home until the shutdown ends which could severely slow down how quickly people receive their tax refund. “It’s my money and I want it now!” |

What's up with the half page 1040? I thought IRS didn't finish making it before the shutdown but just found out that I need 3 extra schedules just to do the same thing as last year's 1040.

Got a bracket bump, but this year I had a son, and get to claim my daughter, so that was nice.
tossing that money into savings for my next purchase. |

So they want their tax return because they already spent the money... Shouldn't spend it unless you have it already. I'm 33 (34 in August). Quit stirring the pot Johnny! Yes I asked that question. I guess I don't rely on that money so whenever I get it... I get it. Not in a rush. |

I hit a new bracket this year, between that and the new tax code meant that my tax refund was cut roughly in half this year. The money is not a huge factor but it is nice to have some extra to dump on the cc and put in savings.

If you have your money rather than the Gov then perhaps you can make that hot tip stock buy that ends up earning you huge dividends that you might have missed had you not had the cash in hand at that moment. Maybe you might have missed an opportunity for a smokin' deal on a new home purchase because you didn't have enough cash on hand for the down. I can't think of a single reason that I wouldn't want to have my money in my hands asap and would instead rather the Gov or whomever earning interest on it rather than me. |

I was lucky and got back $27 federally and $18 state! I was shocked when I got so close to 0, especially last year after I owed $3000 |

How do you think "hit a new bracket" affects your effective tax rate? Because it certainly wouldn't cut your return in half. Having less credits or deductions, and withholding at a different rate however will.

Absolutely nothing changed with my withholdings or deductions, just made more money this year. Even used the exact same tax program.

Every year this thread brings all the people who don't understand tax brackets out of the woodwork. It's like a Pied Piper for numerical illiteracy.
