07 STI - P&L Motorsports Parts and Tune ( and track results! )
Last Friday night, with the Midwest Subaru Shootout on Saturday, I decided to do some last minute preparations for my Stage 2 STI.
Luckily for me, I happen to spend my days working at P&L Motorsports which allows me to make these kind of decisions at the last minute. We threw a P&L HiFlO Intake, Walbro Fuel Pump, and GM 3port boost control solenoid on the car after we closed up for the day and Jorge was kind enough to stick around to tune the car on 100 oct. Holy ****, the car definitely hustles now! The dyno numbers are great for what it is, and the times I ran at the track surprised the hell out of me. It ran 12.50's @109-110 all day long with a best of 12.45@109. The 12.45 was good enough to land me a first place win for the Stock STI Turbo class at the Midwest Shootout. I haven't done a 93 oct map yet, so I don't have any comparison numbers. Hoping to get that done later this week. (or I'll run race gas for a while ) Modifications: Cobb AP w/ 100oct tune by Jorge GM 3port Boost Control Solenoid Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump Invidia Catless Downpipe P&L Motorsports Race Series Ti Tip Cat Back P&L Motorsports HiFLO Short Ram Intake Left Lane - Car 383

You're the man, Ty! I was impressed when I first got word.
Thanks for all your help today! I was the one asking about the 20G/Green choices/differences. I'm getting the transmission finished up this week, then once all my parts are in, back to you guys. |

Most Stage 2 STIs on pump gas were trapping in the 103-105 range, that was my VF48'd Saabaru on pump gas in the right lane (fastest 93 octane trap in the class if I recall correctly). He did get a hell of a launch though, so my guess would be 12.7-12.8 range. Great race Ty, and a great time. I think he finally has a 93 tune too.

Yes he does. I keep trying to convince him to letting me do an EWG and a kill tune on some C-16, but he's being a girlie man who won't let me help him run 11's.

Yea yea.. we'll see Jorge.
My 93oct tune iirc put down 297whp, 316 ft-lbs. We also did a sweet gas saver map for 93oct as well. I'll post up the chart eventually. -Ty |

That's the dilemma I'm having. I really want to see what the VF48 is capable of, and go EWG along with a couple other things... but then I'm sealing the deal on the stock location. If I do end up going EWG with my VF48 I suppose I could just go with a ATP3071 or Dom 2.5R down the road.

How were you running at the Shootout? Were you on pump or race gas? I just ask because if you want to compare to pump gas and a 5 speed I did that 12.9 @ 106 in the right lane. I have a VF48, but it's not drastically different than a VF39 with a P&P.

I didn't run at the shootout but, I ran my car only once before. I ran 100 octwhich I was tuned by jorge for 309/389. my graph looks almost identical to ty's. I have andrewtechs new gearset 1-4 helical cut syncro 5 speed. I had troubles with my new clutch because it was slipping. So I ran a 2.2 60' and ended up running a 13.1 @ 109 but I know I could have trapped higher because I was shifting slow. Sorry to steal your thread Ty.

I am not a fan of Hybrid turbo's if your going to go 3071 you should just go rotated and P&L makes an awesome GT3076R Kit. |

Dan,
You do know that we also make a 3071 rotated turbo kit. A lot of our autocross customers really like it. Spool is about identicall to a vf-43, and will still make 350ish on pump and about 415ish on 100oct. But it holds it all the way to 8K Paul |
