Ice racing video of WRX and STI's having fun.
Finally got the videos put together. Bunch of WRX's and a trio of corporate owned STI's having fun racing on Lake Huron. Can you say drift?
It seemd like half of the field was imprezas. Spent the morning just tearing things up, and then the afternoon getting into some serious timed runs. The in car video is from one of the STI's. Good thing you don't get hurt when you slam into a bank of snow. I like the way the driver did a 360 and kept going right on course! Good driving in there, with some serious sideways drifting. http://dtwaudi.com/downloads/Ice-Race-1.MPG http://dtwaudi.com/downloads/Ice-Race-2.MPG Enjoy!

That was a neat trick he did with the 360.
If only knew I would have been out there with my beautiful RE92s tearing it up! Where are you in MI Mx5racer? |

They are all over Saginaw Bay for the most part. You just have to know where "hot spots" are or you car will look like the infamous STI pic.
When I was growing up I lived right on the Bay. I used to see cars hauling ass across there. Even at night. The ice hasn't been that good the last 15 or so years. |

The SCCA has ice races every winter on Saginaw bay. In detroit, the MSCC used to do it on a local lake until the sheriff kicked us off (I'm not sure why - if you can drive a snow mobile, why not a WRX? Can't argue with a sheriff though).
We had mild winters for about 5 years, where we did not get good ice, but the last two years have been great. Usually the track is 1.5 - 2 miles long, and people in WRXs have reported seeing 120mph on the speedo (yes, on ice), but I think that was an awful lot of wheelspin! Here is a link to the Saginaw bay ice autocross schedule, if you are interested... SVR SCCA ice race schedule Chaz |

I keep thinking I should take my old RE92s, and just put a lot of sheet metal screws and slime in my tires. I was talking with one guy who had over 500 screws in his tires (although the powerful cars have been known to shred their tires with so much horsepower and traction on these tracks...) |
