So has anyone ran the andrewtech cocktail and then put this in and found it to be better?
Ive had andrewtech in my car for about 15k and while its been a major help, the synchros are not acting very great anymore in any of the gears.

Maybe no one cares, but I just put Advanced Auto Parts brand 75w90 Synthetic in my 2010 WRX's transmission and rear axle. It does NOT come with any limited slip additives and was $9 a quart.

Results compared to the OEM fluid after 30,000 miles of use? Feels EXACTLY the same which is perfect.

Hi Guys, sorry for the noob question but is this the new replacement for the hypoy c?

Its a mission to find all the ingredients here in South Africa.

I can get my hands on Redline Heavyweight, but no pennzoil synchromesh so might try the local GM dealership for the alternative.

Just replaced my clutch and the synchro's in the transmission had to use castrol syntrans 75w90 GL4 and its not cool at all!

a product with that same name is what has replaced the 'HypoyC' in north america......you would have to find the pds to compare them to be sure that they are the same or not

hey scotty funny question but something i'm having a tough time getting my head around:

you correctly say that running nothing but full synth isn't the way to go with our 5 speeds. too slippery = synchro's can't engage. however, the andrewtech cocktail with lightweight shockproof and gear 300 is nothing but two different full synth's and people are very happy with it.

there some magic stuff in the LWSP or gear300 i don't know about or???

many have suggested that syn gear lubes are too 'slippery' and this doesnt allow shaft speeds to synch fast enough

i think that the property of the shockproof that makes it 'stick' to the internals of the trans helps slow things down and make the engagement smooth

Alright, the time has come for me to order some transmission fluid, and this thread has caught my attention like it has so many others

My story: 2002 WRX 5-speed, lots '0 miles, never blowed up, synchros still in "decent" shape, I've only ever used Subaru's Extra-S, I have no grinds, but it does take a bit of effort to get it into first even when rev-matching, and I can hear the synchros spin up as I hold the shifter going into first..then it clicks in (not a grind, my sound deadening is out so I can hear it whir up to speed)

My question: Is going with this cocktail going to improve anything, or should I just stick with what has seemed to have worked fairly well in the past. If you choose to answer this question either way, please defend your opinion with experience of using both fluids, and how it improved when you used your preference in gear oil

I'm asking this, because it seems like people use this mixture as a fix, but I don't have any "problem" per se, but I'm also always looking for improvements

havnt looked for any of the ingredients in houston

amazon.com has all of them at last look

use the v3 version and ratios for best results

Instead of using the Motul Gear 300 full synthetic that many people dislike, quite a while ago I tried Motylgear 75W90 and haven't looked back.
My trans and diff seem to be happy with it, and at 186k kms of solid driving everything is still functioning buttery smooth. The feel is very similar to the cocktail, which I did try once as well.

Has anyone run half dino 75w-90 with half 75w-90 Royal Purple? According to the label, RP has some additives in it that sounds like it would keep our subies' trannies

I personally wouldn't try mixing a cocktail unless it's proven to work (ie Uncle Scotties cocktail). I tried using synthetic 75-90 valvoline gear oil and shifts were hard so I just went back to OEM fluid aka Subaru Extra S and my shifts are butter smooth again. Can't go wrong with the oem fluid.

i just used Valvoline 75w-90 (dino) instead of the castrol stuff... The shifting is smoother, but how quickly can i begin to downshift into 1st gear? I hate living in the hills, and not being able to downshift to 1st unless im completely stopped.

If you have an 02 WRX you won't be able to downshift into 1st until you're going really slowly, like 2mph. On my 02 WRX I have to be at a complete stop to shift into 1st while the car is still warming up.

Agreed on the '02 WRX into 1st! PITA for the 2-1 downshift unless at a complete stop. I lost 1st and 2nd gears a few years ago in a snowstorm (synchros blew apart due to a misaligned factory clutch!) and had to start off in 3rd in 18" of new snow!

i have 234,000 miles on my 03 WRx early on i had trouble down shifting into fist gear...i put 2 ots of penz syncro oil and a qt of 90wt dino gear oil and the tranny has been perfect .i got flamed on one of these suby forums for doing that

but it shifts so much better and with over 200,000 miles i dont think mixing the oils hurt anything.not the same drink but seems to work also .

So it's that. Time to change my tranny and rear diff fluids. This is my first time changing them in my WRX though. Iv been doing a lot of searching on the best fluid to use. Should I go with a cocktail? Or stick with a straight fluid? If so what should I use of either? I'm driving cross county in a couple weeks (Virginia to Washington state) fun drive! Ha. And would like to change all fluids before I go.

I'm running a 06 wrx with 113XXX miles on it. Bone stock except for a catback.

So again iv done a lot if reading around. And before I go with OEM fluid what do you all recommend from exp. cocktail? And what exactly? Or one straight fluid and what fluid?
