Our 5-speeds don't seem to love abuse. First gear is usually pretty notchy in the morning (with no synchro) and rev matching seems to help with other shifts. Not sure if that's your idea of babying or not, but that's what I meant.

I have used the cocktail long time ago, It would grind when the mixture separates.
I recommend using Subaru S Gear. I get them from the local Subaru dealer, only thing is, I had to bring my own container. |

Hi guys from over here in the U.K.
Just used redline in my 5 speed , I managed to drain 0.6 litres out via dipstick tube , which leaves about 3.3 litres of castrol syntrax in there , I then added the redline , 0.9 litre bottle . Hopefully it cures the crunch in 2nd and 3rd with this mix ? How you all getting on with the cocktail ? Cheers |

Bartender: One Scotty's cocktail please.
drain it all out and use proper gear oil. its been proven most cocktails eat the brass baulk rings.

So, gotta ask - are you sure it's not your shifting?
I had much better shifting when I switched to the Redline 75W90NS in my 5MT. I had even better shifting when I went from 100% Redline 75W90NS to 50% Redline 75W90NS and 50% Redline Lightweight Shockproof |

I have tracked the car a few times and have autocrossed it a lot. I have a few instances where I have slammed on the brakes in both autocross and track driving where the shifter falls halfway between gears and makes awful sounds (assuming the syncros being eaten).
The clutch is 100 percent depressed. Even if I go very slowly from 5th to 3rd its gonna grind. I have everything minus the Castrol Hypoy C, which is coming tomorrow. I will update with results once I swap the fluid. |

UPDATE: Changed the fluid and went on a 30 min drive with a lot of 5th to 3rd gear shifts. ZERO grinds seemed to have done the trick

Hello guys, greetings from Italy. I used grimmspeed cocktail mix in my STI 02. I'm very happy !! My STI Scratched a bit in all rots and very much in IV and V. I was already ready to spend 1800 Euro for gearbox gears. Put the mix after a while, all went well. Thanks Grimm

4th Gear Grind: Not any more
First Subbie, bought 2 weeks ago. 2002 WRX, 124,500 miles. While test driving, out of respect, I was pretty gentle (last time that happens). After monies exchanged grease-monkey fists I put her through the paces but couldnt 100%. 4th was grinding up-shifting and down shifting; worse when down-shifting. I could kinda float her into 4th from 3rd but 5th to 4th may as well just thrown rocks in the gear box. Did my reading here, Amazon'd my **** (HEAVY Shockproof), followed the recipe, and within 10 miles 3 to 4 was at nearly normal shifting: 5 to 4 I could at least float her into gear. Just did a 300 mile run and EVERYTHING SHIFTED ON POINT!!!! Up and down, all gears, whenever I needed (NOT RACING CONDITIONS) but at a Daily Driver pace it was slicker'n cat **** on linoleum. Dont know what kinda Voodoo Magic Mike jizz this is but at the time of this writing itll give me some time to save up for a tranny rebuild.
