Default clutch shudder when cold or damp or cold and damp on MY02 WRX

I get that clutch shudder when it's cold or damp or cold and damp. It goes away after a bit though.

Do any of you get it?

Have you done anything about it (back to dealer, etc.)

yah, there is a TSB on it, check the tranny forum.

mine gets its occassionally when damp, but temperature does not
seem to be the issue as the colder and drier the air gets, the less I get shudder.

i just live with it as its my weekend car and want to keep the heavy/solid clutch feel. the after TSB clutch feels girlie.

My 03 dosent do it at all.

There are certain VIN's that it occurs between, have a look and see if yours is there.

Does anyone have the VIN range which is impacted by this problem? It would be nice to have that posted somewhere...

hey Wes! Hope things are going well for ya up in DC, dude.

I had my clutch and flywheel replaced at West Houston at 8K miles...on their dime. I have a little over 29K on my wagon now, and the shudder is back. Big time. Personaly, I think the only way to eliminate the clutch shudder is to replace the factory setup with a better quality aftermarket one. That's what I'm going to do, anyway. Best of luck to ya...

If you didn't get the revised clutch plate design, then the problem will come back. As far as I know, the revised fix was not available until the early fall of 02, but I'm not sure about it. The TSB acknowledging the problem did not come out until January 03.

2003 WRXs got the fix starting early on in the 2003 production run. My WRX was around the 6000th produced in 03 (manuf. date of Aug 03) and does have the revised clutch. Some of the early 03 models did not get the fix, however.

Subaru clutches have shudderd for years and they probably always will until you replace them with aftermarket pieces.
