i always like to imagine being a caveman, hungry as ****, walking across the plains and into the jungle and seeing, oh, a bunch of bananas for the first time ever.. not knowing what they are, picking one up, examining it, trying to bite it, being discouraged by the tough outer shell, then trying to peel it away and being delighted with the flavor and abundance of this new food source.

ditto pineapple. what adventurous son of a bitch first decided one of THOSE things would be worth cracking open????

i have often pondered that myself, how do we or how did we know what to eat and what not to eat. especially some poisonous foods look like other foods which will not kill you.

Haven't you seen the video...the banana was designed by god to be easily consumable.

indeed.. who knows what we might be missing out on because all signs point to something being deadly to consume when it is in fact not...

It is possible that some people continued to think tomatoes were poisonous at this time; and in general, they were grown more as ornamental plants than as food. Cultured people like Thomas Jefferson, who ate tomatoes in Paris and sent some seeds home, knew the tomato was edible, but many of the less well-educated did not.

By observing what animals are eating for one.

Almonds...the original non-domesticated version...were toxic. They had to be treated before consumed. But once humans domesticated 'em...

Some plants/animals have never been successfully domesticated, like the Zebra and acorn.
