Default Affordable replacement EGT probe for Defi gauge

My EGT probe failed on my Defi BF gauge recently. I wasn't sure if it was the sensor so I borrowed a new one from a buddy because a new replacement one is around $170. It turned out to be the sensor, but $170 is a lot for a thermocouple.
I decided to look around for one that was compatible. I ended up ordering one from http://www.thesensorconnection.net. It came in and I soldered the wires to the old Defi pins and installed it. The polarity is reversed from the old sensor, and the new sensor worked. The problem was that it was reading around 400* lower than it should. I emailed the company and told them about my problem.
Sometimes you just get really great customer service and it surprises you. He emailed me back with a couple of suggestions and questions. In the end he sent me another sensor that was slightly different (for free). I installed it yesterday and it works perfectly.

If you ever need a new EGT probe for your Defi (or others from what I've been reading), you can get it right here for $49.95:

The sensor in your link is the one that reads correctly?

The wire colors are reversed (only 2 wires). I'll try to get a picture of my connectors and post it up.

Mine is *F. It doesn't matter though because they both use the same temp probe.

Obligatory pic of the Full Race manifold...

It was hard to get a good picture. Just reverse the original wire colors and it will work. Unpinning and soldering the pins is a pain. If I was going to do it again I'd cut the wires from the old sensor and solder them to the new sensor. Don't forget to reverse the colors.

I just bought that sensor, now looking at the back of the gauge there is a 2 pin plug. Which pin is what?

This thread is a life saver a couple years later. Defi's new gauges have the price of the replacement cable over $200 now.

Thanks for the hook up.

Glad it helped you out. The sensor I bought back when I started this thread is still working perfectly.

I'm going to be doing the same fix... just ordered the EGT sensor. If this works out for me do you mind if I re-post on Evolutionm.net? I'm sure these guys would appreciate it.

You probably have a bad gauge then, not a bad sensor.

It can't be the guage cause ever since we had a bad rainstorm a few months ago the guage started to not work sometimes and now when we get a bad rain it doesn't work but once it drys up it will start working again so it has to be te sensor. I will check the solder maybe tomorrow to see if I made a bad connection

Never tried. It's worth a shot because if it doesn't the people at sensor connection will work with you to find one that does.

Bringing back...

I assume the thread on this sensor is the same as the Defi? You just unscrew the Defi sensor from the bung and screw this one in?
