if I had took pics of my L muffler, it was worse. hahaha

I guess with no turbo on the NA models, it's louder because the turbo acts like a muffler too because of the turbine housing and blades. The NA models have nothing but cats, resonator, and the muffler.

Now I'm thinking about calling boneyards tomorrow to try to find a muffler assembly off a wreck that I can gut. I believe I can do it! Man, lately I have been hooked on the el cheapo DIY mods... The muffler gut would almost rank up there with the DIY headlight painting mod as far as coolness goes, me thinks...

Can someone explain how this muffler works? The gases come in through the top pipe...then what?

Does the exhaust gas then work its way towards the front of the muffler, then out the 2 pipes?

I allways wondered what cause the discoloration on the top...now I see!

Looks like it builds a huge amount of pressure in there as exhausts go.

I have my old 1992 L muffler around sumwhere, I will open that up, as I have no
use for it anymore.

there are two walls... three chambers...

gasses go through inlet pipe, some get out into second chamber, most go to third. from third they go back through little hole, and build up pressure so more gasses go through grating into 2. once pressure builds up in 2 they go to 3, and 3 goes into the outlets.

by making the exhaust go through more chambers you make the sound almost drown itself out. the length of the pipes also help to make the soundwaves cancel out.

Starting my 02 now. And should have pics up and maybe even a sound clip within a week hopefully. We just got about 20 inches of snow, so I'm bored.
