completely like ass, but my guess is with an open-top gutted muffler about an inch-and-a-half away from that heat shield, things will get noisy. Probably even noisier than an open midpipe with the axleback removed. I actually found the open midpipe to be a hair quieter than the ride5000 mod (blah,blah - please refrain from sending me more death threats regarding that one).
I had a quick idea to do dudical26's suggestion and install the unit without sealing it up. However, it's winter here, and there would be very obvious exhaust vapor bleeding out around the muffler body. So, I will not install the unit without closing the access hole.
Today I hope to fab up a different cover. I already made one and it fits fine, but I left it in the oven just a little too long, and it has some heat scarring. Today I plan on making a more cosmetically pleasing cover, and completing the gutting process. If things go well, I will install the temporarily sealed unit tonight.
