Does anyone know if Manley used torque plates on a fresh block to get an idea of what the piston to wall clearance should be or did they just go off Subaru spec?

Two questions asked in this thread havent been answered yet, and id love to get some feedback on these pistons.

1. what is the measured PTW?
2. Are they noisy?

Thanks all!

I'll be able to answer #2 in a month or so. I'm suspecting they'll be noisy...

Delphi - Highly doubt it, but you can e-mail Manley and find out.

I've heard people say regular manley pistons are on the noisy side.
Yes, this is the question I asked a while back and I'm still wondering.

That's good to hear. Since it's cheap enough, I'm putting a block hear on the motor while I'm putting this together.

I got a response back from Manley they said they used Subaru factory specs to create them. They did not make them based off measurements with a torque plate bolted on.

I won't agrue that Manley didn't do their "job" just saying factory blocks vary(beyond A/B) and I'm not one to just assume things are right. Although I do have the tools to measure it and would spend the little amount of time to make sure for peace of mind.

wow a lot of very interesting info. i am new to rebuilding engines. My buddy is helping me do my 2012 wrx. i am trying to find what the best pistons and rods for my car
heres what i have so far done:
This is all great info about pistons. I am also going to read about the rods. I am a noob still and this is not cheap so far. I know at TPG tuning they wanted 10,500$ to do this and i am adding more things than i discussed with them so i could only imagine what they would want. This is my first time doing a job like this> i am doing it with my buddy. He builds v8s. For anyone who actually had done this kind of work before and is well versed, any advise would be great. I have been reading up on what is the best application of pistons and roods for my 2012 wrx. I did not know that there was specific applications of pistons and rods for certain builds. It will be a daily driver. I'm not going to do any more upgrading to the engine after this. 450/470 HP is where i think i will be after i get this back together. for my

ENGINE AND POWER:
cobb V2 with a 93 map and E85 map
Motive autowerks/ Zero lift TGV deletes
NGK one step colder plugs
invidia Q300 catback
clinic 900cc injectors
AEM cold air intake
Tomei Type S fuel pressure regulator
Deatschwerks DW65c fuel pump
IAG air oil separator
Gates timing belt kit and water pump

so i feel if i add 1050 injectors, headers, new clutch (since the motor is out might as well. FP green turbo or COBB 20G. i think i am going to go with the FP Green though. Then comes the pistons and rods. we have not split the engine yet because there is one bolt that is a bitch and i will probably have to buy the special tool. its the top left bolt hooked to the belt wheel and cam, so i might run into some other surprises. I will know more if i have any broken parts i will need to pick up this weekend. Any advise on pistons and rods along with any other parts i will need. I'm just trying to find the best application for my car. It will be a daily driver
