Default MB Quart 6.5 " PCE216 or QSC216 - fit?

Looking for someone who has successfully mounted these speakers in the front doors of a recent model STI, including the crossover. Do they fit? If so, were spacers required? And where did you put the crossover?

Thanks.

All MB Quart 6.5" drivers require some modification to fit. Usually some cutting.

I don't know if a 6.5" spacer has enough room, but I do know you can fit almost any 5.25" driver there.

Default Cutting?

You mean cutting out metal from the door?

I took some measurements yesterday and looked up the speaker size too.

Front speaker hole width in 2007 STI: about 5" or 5 1/16" across (my measurement)
"Cutout dimensions" spec for QSC 216: 5.61"

So does this mean the magnet on the back of the speaker is too large in diameter for the speaker hole in the door?

i installed these ... can't remmeber the exact model - they are 2 years old and are 6.5" reference series. I installed in a my front doors with great difficulty. The door trims do not sit correctly either. If i were you, I'd spend a little more and gert 5" dynaudio splits for up front ... I know if i had the chance, i'd get the dynaudio for sure!

The magnets on MB Quartz are small. The driver's diameter is very big, so the basket hits the whole. A spacer may help.

IA performance spacers ftw, or just cut out some mdf and make spacers... I had MB Quart QSD 6.5" components in the front door of my 2004 WRX and in my 2006 WRX. The crossovers are huge so you may want to mount them under the seats or in the trunk. Luckily with Imprezas, it is fairly easy to fish speaker wire from insid the car into the door.

So you were able to install the 6.5" with no metal cutting? I'm afraid the spacers won't help with the small diameter speaker hole...I think they just help with mount depth...

Sort of. They may push out the speaker enough for the natural taper of the speaker to allow for fitment.

Thanks guys. I also just got this back from Iaperformance (they responded in 3 hours, pretty nice!):

"The following info is assuming this is for the front doors:
1.Our supplied door panel extension pack will take care of mounting depth
issues.
2. MB quart fit perfect with our adapters.

This would be the ideal setup for a front set:
http://www.iaperformance.com/product...oducts_id/1482

This would be an ideal setup if you were to add in the MB quart 5.25" coax
rears:
http://www.iaperformance.com/product_info.php/products_id/243"

I'm getting ready to buy these speakers online and they'll probably not be returnable so I just want to make triple sure. Looks like I'm ready to go.

I installed the PCE216 speakers using the IAP thick spacers - no problems at all. I mounted the crossovers in the center console.

Listen to them first please.

MB Quarts are good but to me the titanium tweeters are very bright and require some attentuation or softening.

Silk dome tweeters are easier for me to bear and feel more natural.

So it is encouraged to please go listen to your favorite kind of music on them first.
I am considering something like Diamond Hex 600s or some Focal's when I'm ready to build my system.
