Another up side is you control the whole exhaust tract and the performance of that if you supply that!

The downside of the merged turbo and gate exhaust is the added expense to the buyer who may have a nice 3" exhaust but now has to buy your kit with a new exhaust. As well you will have multiple platforms to design the exhaust system for.

Figuring that you dump the gate close to the turbo with a muffler then you could assume the following. The up side of the separate EWG exhaust would be easier to fabricate for you and less costly to the customer. It will flow exactly what it needs without the complication of the merging exhausts.

Down side is the loss of complete control of the exhaust tract using the customer supplied exhaust beyond the down pipe which you would supply.
JMHO
I thought I would point out that one option on the recirc EWG exhaust is an adapter flange. If the KillerB 3 1/2" downpipe ended short of a standard catback, it wouldn't matter because it doesn't have to match other 3 1/2" exhausts. That means that the KillerB 3 1/2" catback could bolt to it (not fitting other downpipes) and there would be room for an adapter to let it bolt to a normal 3" catback if someone wants to keep their existing exhaust.

There would be a power drop for customers with big turbos and they would probably opt for the full exhaust, but some GT(X) 28-30 users might not care as the restriction wouldn't affect them as much and they would probably have lower budgets anyways. Plus, that would let them save up and add the 3 1/2" later.

I recommend starting with a 3 1/2" exhaust for the GR sedan so I can buy it and adapt it to my Bellmouth downpipe by cutting it at the 3 1/2" diameter portion and adding some pipe and a flange...

Speaking of, any progress/pics on the 2012 project car?

is that turbo wider than it is tall/deep?

maybe its just the efr's that are like that but i always thought turbos were more compact transverse.

either way its a great looking kit. im tepmted to buy one of your unfinished/straight out manifolds to try something custom. great work on the turbine reducer too btw.

Good observation.

The 12 is going to have injectors put in soon and we should be getting some dyno testing on the cat-back we've been road testing. Then the GR downpipe will be done after we finish the GD version and after that the TS Low Mount... but that's probably fall.

Yes. Rain and torrential downpours. I even drive it through the automated car wash. No date set yet.

I don't have dimension in front of me at the moment, but it is fairly square IIRC. Thanks for the kind words!

great job on this kit! it's really looking promising!

question: how does this change underhood temps? specifically, if it's under the right front, doesn't that heat up the air that a cold air intake might pull in? or, running the exhaust that close to the RF axle, would it burn up the axle boot prematurely?

the exhaust is always close to that axle and the intake is in front of all exhaust components right near the very front of the car. no hot air over there.

looks like you can cut out another foot or more of charge pipe if you ran a reversed intake manifold and throttle body setup. yay for more spool!

Well, looks like I'm waiting until fall for your TS GR kit

I'm also interested in the radiator adapter, more info?

It is definitely a setup that can be driven in all conditions and has exceptional drivability. My wife (not a car person at all) occasionally drives it and when I ask my usual "how'd the car drive?" gives an uneventful "it was fine" response... although sometimes with a bit of a smirk

Here you can see the turbo pulls air right from the front. It's significantly colder than the OEM or rotated setup. With the hood scoop being deleted and relatively open areas adjacent to the radiator sides there's a lot of airflow through the engine bay (especially with the freaky hood vent/heat extractor I've got on the car).

^ Very true.

I seriously considered this. My thought was, most want A/C and rotating the manifold makes it that much less of a bolt-on kit. There's also the piping that would right RIGHT behind the 175°+ degree radiator to get to the TB and according to the bend/length rough calculation it was worth an additional 2% on a good day.

I'm excited to get into this as well! A lot of sketches and some design work has been done, but the big hold-up is we've got the GR slated for a bunch of other product testing before getting into the Low Mount Kit.

That's two for the radiator adapter. If we get to (5) I'll price out manufacturing a small batch.

nice!! i didn't realize the turbo was mounted as far inboard, toward the center of the car. i was under the impression that it utilized the space between the front right fog light and the wheel well.

as for the axle boot question - do you have any shots from under the car to show how the exhaust is routed around the RF axle?

im interested in the lower coolant passage adapter too. provided the price point is right.

would it need a custom lower hose? or should it work with stock hoses/rad fine?

I should only require a stock hose to be trimmed.

Correct on the GDs it's very limited. Nothing larger than a GTX35

Are you considering doing this for a GR as well....I have a 2011 STI build currently going on and would love this setup....My only issue is I have a big turbo.....Please PM me if you are interested in making one for me....

I'd be interested to see how fast this could spool a 20G for an autocross car.

Yes. Likely to go TS on the GR first, but I'm on the fence on that. Define big?

Well here's a quick comparison (same year with kinda sorta other similar mods). If the pulls were started at the same RPM the onset of power would likely look closer. On the street is spools very rapidly and feels/reacts similar to a VF but just pulls a lot more and there's no power taper.

Started her up last week and prepping her for an engine transplant. Nothing exciting to report just yet.
