Default Avo inlet question

I searched the threads and found a write up on install and all pictures are corrupted. Anyways decided to start a new thread because I couldn’t find my question asked anywhere. So here it is. Is anyone running the long AVO turbo Inlet with an aftermarket intake? I didn’t realize when I bought it that it doesn’t have anywhere for the MAF to go because it’s intended to be used with stock airbox. I don’t have the stock box and don’t really want to use the stocker anyways considering I already have the AFE Takeda Attack Pro Dry filter and box. I have attached pictures so you can see my dilemma. Red is my car and blue is from AVOs site.

Since that intake looks to move the MAF housing inboard I doubt you would be able to use this inlet. At least not easily. You could attempt cutting the extended portion off, essentially making it the same length as a typical turbo inlet. But that is a spendy inlet to hack up like that. Is there are particular reason you chose that unique style inlet?
From your user name I am guessing this is GD 05 STI. I can also tell you first hand that this AVO inlet fights the over-intake tube power steering hardline. AVO's promotion photos show installations on AUS versions that do not have the over-intake hardline. Their response is essentially cut the MAF end shorter so it fits. I was attempting with an oem airbox but I expect you will have similar issues. I sent mine back rather than hack it in.

Agreed with above.

If you are resigned to keeping that intake, you should probably sell the AVO inlet and buy another that keeps the connection point of the Inlet/After MAF hose in the stock location. (Perrin, Mishimoto, etc)

Otherwise, you'll have to figure out how to push the MAF tube and intake filter out towards the fender and the box may not mount correctly.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. I purchased it because I liked how it was one smooth flow of air. Was thinking it would flow better, not really thinking it would help performance all that much but maybe a little? Also I just thought it looked cleaner being one piece. The sad part is I did some research on this inlet and found nothing but positive reviews not realizing it was intended for stock airbox. I guess that was a noob mistake on my end for not digging deeper before purchasing! I really wanted the APS hard turbo inlet but that’s impossible to find anymore. Really wanted a hard inlet but got over it and accepted silicone. Well, guess it’ll be going back! what a shame!

....ok my mind is going through different options. Advice please. Options 1. Get a different shorter inlet and keep the afe intake I have on it now. Or Option 2. Get a stock air box with a high flow filter and run this new inlet that has a larger diameter where it meet the filter? Which option would be a better option? Or are answers just opinion based?

Under-hood Mods :
Turbo off 2017
AFE Takeda Attack Pro intake
Bigger than factory silicone inlet I forget the brand? But not as big as the AVO
Single catted divorced Tomei downpipe and Tomei Headers, 3” exhaust.
Koyo Alu radiator
Stock Factory Block (4000 miles)
Rebuilt heads (4000 miles)

What was your tuned WHP before the AVO came into play? Did you *need* a (hot air) intake?
