That makes absolutely perfect sense, since I saw it on a VVT repair video on an FA20. My limited knowledge, I assumed it would be found on en EJ as well.

The FA and EJ are quite different.

I've heard that the intake AVCS mechanisms are easy to take apart and clean, but the exhaust ones are basically locked together. Which I'm sure is why the InFront (Auburn, WA) gave me the contaminated one for free.

One shop does offer disassembly and cleaning, but I don't recall the name.

I remember watching a YouTube video that outlined the whole process, it seemed pretty straight forward however, when reassembling he showed that you need to use a special tool to ensure everything aligns
properly.
