Default Just woke up from a nap... where is everybody?

Just rolling through for the first time in a few years to see what's new... what happened to NWIC? This place used to be so vibrant!~

Where the old folks at?

PS- Read the stickies and only threads I could find... sorry if this was already addressed and I missed it...

I think most people migrated to the Facebook groups. There's a few of us OGs around still, but most of the guys I've known well have sold their Subarus.....

Facebook has pretty much killed forums, sadly.

There was a small effort to bring back NWIC but it died out fairly quick.

It is sad.

Facebook is terrible for collecting/retaining knowledge. You thought people didn't search before asking questions on NASIOC? Ha! Now they can't search, even if they want to. It's just 1000 people all asking why their parking lights don't turn off after they've taken the keys out or if they need to get a tune after installing a DP, and a bunch of overpriced/underpriced/unsearchable FS posts.

I just bought a new STI after selling my last one in 2012. Coming back after 6 years, it seems like everyone has moved on.

I just came back here too - my login was pj_cab but when I was trying to recover my password, the recover link never came to my email.

So I just re-registered as pj_cab1 - last time I was here actively was in 2007, over a decade ago.

And just got back into the Subie scene with a 2018 WRX and a 2017 Outback.

I miss the 'ol days here, but good to see some familar names still.

I had been lurking for quite awhile before I finally got my 17 WRX, but while this section may be a bit quiet, the forum itself is still really useful, and there are a lot of people who are knowledgeable for people like me who are still just scratching the surface of DIY fixes and modifications. The classifieds are still a pretty good resource too. I just picked up an extra set of stock wheels and tires for a really good deal. If you post it, we shall reply

I lurk around, take a look at basically everything that graces the NWIC Classifieds, but there's not a whole lot of action in here haha. I would love if we had more discussion, because as RedMonkey999 said, FB is terrible for retaining knowledge.

I spend most of my time helping people in the NA, electrical, and service/maintenance areas.
Sometimes I'll pop into the transmission forum too.

Yes, Facebook has lowered traffic a bunch of all the message boards. But as mentioned above, the organization of information that you actually need is far superior here. I feel like all this stuff is cyclical. I remember back pre-message boards when Yahoo had some Subaru groups. They were un-threaded kinda like Facebook, so as stuff got old it kind of just disappeared. Much easier to search for relevant information here.

Really sad how FB has killed forums, it's really dumbed things down. Still lurking and waiting for the resurgence.

Same here, there used to be the weekly meets posted from the south end to up north.

Maybe too much policing drove people away, but i have gone to facebook and instagram to see if any meets or anything are going on and those haven't been updated in a couple years either. And i'm not trolling either of those to find out whats happening. I'll continue to wave at Subaru's and go on my way.

Who knows, maybe this is the end of what we used to know.

But i'm down for a meet. I'm in the Olympia/Lacey area.

Wow, i’m Glad i found this thread. I went to the pre-2002 forum and it’s a ghost town over there, then realized it’s a ghost town all over NASIOC. Super sad this community used to be crazy active. At least we have the archives...

Still lurking, donít have Facebook so I still come here to read pretty often (usually FA forums). Wish it was more active but itís been like this for a few years now. Reddit is kind of where I go for community conversation at this point.

Man, you said it. I've tried following what's going on in a few Subie Facebook groups and...it's just a mess. The S/N ratio is like... well it's just all noise. After seeing what it's like there, I don't think anyone could ever bitch about a 'newbie' thread on here ever again.

That and well... I just don't like Facebook in general.

Edit: Example, this is an actual post in a Subie mechanics group,

"Hellozz
My impreza Gc8 is Showing "CHECK ENGINE" light, can u pliz advise what should i do !!"

You dirty dog!

What lame group do you belong to? I'm in one of the dealer tech groups and it's pretty decent.

True on this.

I remember when I got my WRX back in 2003 and it was quite cool that I get the 'wave' (and wave back too) to most, if not all other WRX's I see on the road.

When I got my '18 WRX and since last month, I've only been waved at once by someone with a '14 WRX, and I even didn't get a chance to wave back as for a second I was surprised at the wave and didn't realize to wave back until after he passed by already.

Maybe one of these days we can get/organize another meet in the Beaverton/Aloha area and drive on the nice back roads up in NW Portland then wind down at a good restaurant somewhere

Last second decision to head out to PIR last night for the Oregon Trail Rally and it was just a giant car meet. Mostly Subarus but a lot of other enthusiast cars represented. No mention nor cross posted info about meeting up here in NWIC. Kinda a bummer because I'm not on FB and that's apparently where all the social action is nowadays. Was a perfect evening at the track for looking at cars and eating dirt, BTW.
