Default My only problem with my 2009 WRX....

I don't know if this is the same in the 2008 interior as well, but does anyone else hate the cupholder placement in the 2009??

If I have anything bigger than a medium Wawa coffee in there (which sits almost flush with the trim), I have to bend my arm up and over it to get at the shifter. Even a 12 oz soda bottle sticks up too high. And anything with a straw?? forget about it!!

I guess now at least I've got an excuse to not let people bring liquids into the car

do you have the rear cupholder? sometimes I'll use that one if I feel like drinks will be in the way.

sports bottles are worse. I usually stick those in the door.

it's cramped in there, but putting the drinks in front of the shifter would have been a worse idea.

Yes, life is hard

No, I don't have a rear cupholder.. do you know if that's 2008-2009 compatible part? maybe i can find someone selling it...

I kind of miss the rear cupholder from my Acura. In the RSX-S there was the one at the back of the center console, and two front of the shifter tucked under the stereo

<-- coming from an S too. i could only use the left cupholder for medium cups and smaller because of the radar detector. anything bigger wouldn't fit, so it would always go behind me. problem with that design is, you have to move the cups to get to the hidden pocket (ie for gum).

check the ebay subaru stores. they sell the rear cupholders as a part and is easy to install. I have one (STI) but it came with the car.

You're absolutely right, they are in the one of the worst impractical, UNSAFE spots possible!

However. . .

I will never forget my '96 impreza with the pull-out cup holder that instantly prevented you from seeing and/or touching anything on your radio. Oh yea, it also created a new fun game of see how many times you can spill drinks on your radio/temperature controls!

Haha, that sounds like a game I'd like to avoid in my car

I'm gonna have to look into getting that back seat cup holder, the ones in the doors are huge... or I guess I can start drinking out of 2L soda bottles!

Yup... Any drink over 20oz with a straw is a bugger to try to shift with. (Unless you like straws jammed into your flesh.)

I've begun to go for the "Subaru diet," which limits me to smaller beverages- probably not a bad idea for my health, anyway.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one annoyed by this! I did a few searches before posting this and didn't find anything, so figured I may just be nuts

There IS plenty of headspace in the car though, so I may opt for the beer helmet (sans beer of course!) instead of using the cup holders

I'd have EIGHT cupholders if I had 4 passengers in the car

I kind of like where the cupholders are - it's recessed and out of the way so I'm not constantly bumping things stored there.

Agree with the OP, it's a bit annoying, bu pretty minor.

I actually bought a smaller one that fits in the door just for this reason.

I do this when I have one of the larger ones.

I actually bought the red Subaru Nalgene from one of the websites, which is pretty sweet, I think.

Does anyone know if the rear cupholder will expand enough to hold either the above Subaru bottle or a standard Nalgene bottle? I'd be surprised, but I'd likely install it if it did...

Well, since there's now a thread of minor complaints about the '09 WRX...

The driver's seatbelt doesn't retract properly in mine. It's annoying when I get out and it gets caught in the door. I usually have to feed it back in manually.

It looks like it's a pretty decent size.

http://www.subaru.com/shop/configura...aModelCode=9JP

How exactly does this retract though? Does it house inside the console or what?

it's self contained. the whole unit is the width of the cupholder, which all fits within the console. so when you fold it up, it folds flat.

^ That's awesome. I wonder if my 20% off coupon is still good... I've had my eye on a few things...

i've been dying to get my hands on the basket that goes on the rails, but they're flippin' expensive!

I was looking into that.. I'd like to get the Subaru rails since aftermarket ones are the same price basically. But I think the basket is cheaper to get from Thule or the like. I was going to get the rails then get a non-OEM ski rack. Might as well put the cupholder into my order too...

Hows it mount, where that little piece of trim is snapped on in the back?

Then of course I got my catalog with the "Feb 2009" Boot gauge that looks pretty nice... Trying to not buy that...

I don't know if you can buy a/m rails that will fit into the subaru slots. your car is already designed to accept rails, so oem seems like the only option, if you want to use those slots.

i'll have to check Thale. But the heavyweight basket from SOA was like $300+.

I'd assume that you just remove a piece of plastic and snap this one in... somehow. i'm sure it comes with destructions. everything else i've bought has.

hmpf. i don't get catalogs. boost gauge will have you stay out of boost and save gas.

save gas, that's a good rationalization for buying it!!!

I was looking on Thule and Yakimas websites and I believe they had rails listed for the 08 and 09s... But with the 20% off from Subaru it's worth getting OEM .. if the coupon is still good..
