![]() Beautiful blaze yellow. I really wonder how many are actually left. I've seen3 in the last 12 months show up on the chopping block in facebook partout ads.

![]() Thanks! I'm really curious as to how many there are as well. I've only seen one other than my own in person.

![]() On Saturday I towed the still-dead EZ30 swap Legacy from my old rental house to the house my wife and I bought in Falls Church. Dropped a bunch of fluid, not sure from where - didn't have a chance on Sunday to jack the car up and figure out where it would've been coming from. My only guess is power steering, because the lines aren't hooked up and we were using the steering, but we didn't have to steer that much, and it seemed like it dumped quit a bit of fluid.
![]() Edit: As far as I can tell, it was the power steering. No signs of other leakage, and there was PS fluid on top of the engine, apparently from the return line (which isn't connected to anything). Last edited by Patrick Olsen; 09-30-2021 at 05:06 PM. |

![]() Over the past couple days I noticed the exhaust getting louder, not in a good way - very flatulent / buzzy sounding, particularly on decel. When I got home from work yesterday I reached under the car and could feel exhaust puffing out from the flange between the mid-pipe and muffler, so I figured I needed to replace that gasket again. Not a big deal. Once I actually took a better look with a light, I discovered that the rear section of the mid-pipe (to the right of the right clamp in the pic above) had rusted completely through at the downstream side of that right clamp. Well, crap. ![]() |

![]() - Changed the oil on the beater Impreza Saturday.
- Used it to carry home a Christmas tree Sunday. No need to worry about marring the already terrible paint, and the frameless windows make it easy/convenient to tie the tree to the roof. |

![]() - Rolled 251,000 miles yesterday.
- Still haven't put the snow tires on yet. Each time I've thought it was time to do so, we had another warm spell. Looking at the 10-day forecast, though, it might finally be time to do it in the next few days. |

![]() Finally (maybe?) fixed the exhaust on the beater Impreza yesterday. Removed the STI muffler and the clumsily-extended mid-pipe. Installed a new mid-pipe (Walker part) and a new Stromung twin-tip axle-back.
I would attach some pics, but the NASIOC Images site doesn't appear to be coming up right now. |

The forward end of the mid-pipe, with new spring bolts and new donut gasket to connect to the cat pipe. As I did with the last new mid-pipe, I did a quick spray with some hi-temp black VHT on the flanges and welds to give them a little protection. ![]() Mid-pipe to Stromung axle-back, with Stromung-supplied hardware and gasket: ![]() Looking forward from the rear of the car: ![]() The dark driveway shot, showing off the dead clear coat, the dented trunk lid, and the shiny new twin-tips peeking out. ![]() ![]() The old STI muffler and old mid-pipe that came off the car. ![]() If you look closely you can see that the forward flange of the mid-pipe was toast - that's probably what I was starting to hear leaking. You can also see why I put some paint on the flanges and on the welds - the aluminized pipe is just fine, but the welds and flanges get rusty. |

![]() Changed the oil on the beater Impreza this weekend.
Over the winter after particularly cold nights, the EJ22 would get the "typical" lifter tick when I first started it up. It would go away after maybe 15 or 30sec of running. But for the past 6 or 8 weeks, even in the warmer weather, it was ticking all the time. I tried adding some Marvel Mystery Oil and some Seafoam (a couple weeks apart), but it was still ticking. Changed the oil (using M1 5W-30 with a little Seafoam), started it up, ticked for a couple seconds and then it was silent. Nice! |

![]() Just in time for Summer- fixed the A/C (bad pressure switch), and got my Kuat Roof basket mounted up... Oh- I also went by Mach V and ordered a new rear swaybar! With the lift kit and knobby tires, I need to tighten the handling up a bit!

![]() Picked up some junkyard Outback wheels a couple months back to mount the beater's summer tires on. I finally had a chance to clean them up and spray them with Duplicolor wheel paint and some 2K clear. (I was doing the painting out in the yard, and unfortunately it started to sprinkle while I was putting on the clear, so I didn't end up doing as many coats of clear as I was planning. Ah well...)
Got the tires mounted up last Friday and installed on the car: ![]() |

![]() Pulled the rear seat cushion out of the beater Brighton after discovering that a number of Diet Coke cans sitting in a 12-pack had popped. Never had that happen before in all my years of car ownership!

![]() Spent the long break fitting up a catch can to my EJ20 setup. Decided to plumb it after the GS AOS I'm using to hopefully catch any oil that makes it past the AOS.
My tuner mentioned a tad bit of oil may be getting into the intake when the car was on the dyno. I'll be switching to an IAG or KB AOS when I build my 2.5L, undecided on which - but for now this setup should more than suffice. Plus the GrimmSpeed unit was a gift anyway, so I'm okay waiting a bit to replace it. ![]() |

Also installed a dead pedal foot pad from a GD Impreza. (I have a couple other pictures showing the hole I wanted to cover up, but for some reason NASIOC Images only wanted to upload 1 of the 4 pics. ![]() ![]() Of course, once I was done with that I realized that I should've ordered the clutch and brake pedal covers at the same time; they were missing when I bought the car (and I "fixed" that by putting some non-skid tape on them ![]() |

![]() Followed up with the brake and clutch pedal covers a week or so ago. They were $6 each at the dealer, but I elected to go with convenience and save myself the 40min+ round trip by ordering off Amazon. (When I was living in Great Falls I drove by Stohlman on Rte 7 a couple times per day, but I've moved, so it's not quite as convenient anymore.) The brand I got is KOAUTO, and as far as I can tell they're the same as the Subaru parts.
(Side note: There's a 1-star review on the Amazon page for the KOAUTO ones from some idiot who said they wouldn't fit his WRX and posted a picture. The picture shows he was trying to install them over his existing aluminum pedal covers. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
