Default Ski and Snowboard Thread 2012-2013

Time to start a thread for this year.

It snowed here for the last 24 hours. Finally changed over to rain late this afternoon, but not before we ended up with 12-14". More snow expected later this week. Conditions should be great for the weekend!

I'm trying to figure out how far north I'd have to drive in either NH or VT to get conditions worthy of a holiday weekend day trip...

Hoping to spend Saturday AM on my split board. Low coverage for the backcountry so I'll probably be sticking to resorts for now, hoping to hit tucks on a nice powder day soon though.

Any other avid backcountry skiers/riders out there?

How far up in the mountains are you?

Down in Conway area it only seemed to collect 5 inches or so, and it's been raining all day

Snowfall varied greatly depending on location. My co-workers at the school where I teach drive from all over (Madison, Tamworth, Conway, Fryeburg, Lincoln, etc.) and most reported 6" and then rain. My wife works in North Conway and said it was raining this morning. When I drove to school in Bartlett around 10:00 this morning after our 2-hour delay, I took this pic:

Yeah, I went into work in North Conway this morning and it was slushy and raining, it's been raining all day it seems I got a few runs in at Cranmore Monday but I fear the rain is going to put a damper on it until the next storm.

Oh well, new skis and bindings come in a few days, and my new boots are awesome! Can't wait to ski this year!

Attitash and Wildcat both ended up with around 14". Not surprising that Cranmore had a lot less.

Vermont Report:
Sugarbush last Saturday was firm to say the least but is was before the storm. Only had about 15 runs open.

Killington on Monday was pretty good, a few inches of snow and no crowds (it was a Monday) and have a good, but small variety of trails open.

It has been raining for the last 20+ hours though.

Looks like Maine got the best snow from the past system. Sugarloaf and Saddleback both have seen 20-25"+ since Sunday night.

I may be up at Wildcat or Sunday River Sunday if conditions hold up and the weather cooperates.

Heading up to NH this weekend, i'm am extremely nervous about the rain in the forecast as I have some very big plans with the girlfriend (involving a sleigh ride and a big question) Saturday night that rain would put a damper on. Plus I'd like to get some turns in Saturday morning....

Cruised up to Sunday river Tuesday for the day, snow was great through Monday night and continued all day Tuesday which made for great conditions! Good luck with the big question, hopefully the snow will keep falling.

I hope the rain in the forecast turns to snow! Nice idea with the sleigh ride. I'm sure Saturday morning turns will almost be a necessity before popping the big question haha. Good luck RR, hope you get a yes!

Just bring an umbrella and don't worry too much. The moment will be all that more memorable if the weather isn't perfect.

Only a diehard skier would worry about ski conditions at the same time they're worrying about a marriage proposal.

Priorities! Unfortunately our house is closest to Ragged or Gunstock and neither look great for the weekend.

And in regards to that other thing, I just changed my reservation to BW, forecast appears to be a little more favorable then the Jackson/Conway area at lower elevation.

Well I'm all excited as I just finished booking my annual trip out west. This years venue... Mt Baker, WA for 8 days in late February/early March. Should be deep!!!

Anyone been and have any insight? I've gotten a bunch of info from the TGR forums and a few firsthand accounts from friends but the more info I can get the better.

Only insight I can give is to go sooner and stay longer.

Unfortunately, I'm stuck back out here... They've been getting a ton of snow out there though.

Haha figured you'd chime in Steve. They've been getting dumped on out there since Thanksgiving. It's depressing looking at their snow reports and weather forecasts and then seeing what we have out there.

Bought a season pass to Stratton/Okemo/Sunapee (SOS) last week. Might go to Sunapee sometime next week if I can get a day off from work.

Tryin to get into the backcountry a few times this winter. Hoping for some better snow reports for the new year.

Went to Okemo a few weeks ago to shake the cob webs...wasn't bad for late November riding. Was going to try and make a trip this weekend, but will prolly bail from all this rain we're about to get.

I'll be working up there a day or 2/week. May see you up there. I drive a white Hawkeye that'll always be in the 2nd lot
