Default Best place for Dyno tune in DFW/Austin/Houston/SA area???

I just want everyones opinions and preferences about where to get your WRX's and STI's tuned in the area. I've heard great things about MZM, Henderson Performance, EL etc...

I'd like to know everyones feelings about the tuners and PRO's/CON's or goods/bads or however you want to explain it.

I'm getting my car tuned in the near future so am looking for some knowledgeable and helpful answers in regards to your success stories/failure stories.....

This thread should be vastly opinionated and everyone IS entitled to their own opinion so NO BASHING!!

Just let us know

Like I said... THIS IS NOT A BASH THREAD.. so play nice guys

i had my 03 tuned at mzm and have nothing to say but good things, they are subaru experts and really good at what they do, the majority of the cars they tune are subies, and hey it's in ur town. im in nc right now and i just bought an 06 sti and am waiting till i go back to tx in a few months to go back to them. plus they have had some customers cars in some import magazines. really great service.

Thanks for your input! MZM is a great little shop and Mohammad and company are good people. They have nothing to do with the open source side of things and stick with COBB AP Protuning and ECUtek flashes.

EL has a great Dyno and has a great staff nothing but good things to say about them.

oh and I should add that I have not spent a dime in that shop I am going off of simply time that I have spent getting to know the Knowledge and the Personality and Customer service that EL has to offer.

The next ecu definition release will allow users to modify the amount of timing pulled when the knock signal is set. Default on the 07 STI is 1.4 degree steps. You can change the learned advance value already. That is, if your car has learned some knock out and it does not see knock for some time, it will step up timing in increments. You can change this step value. Default on the 07 STI is 0.35 degrees. For the 16 bit ECUs, you can do everything ECUTek/Cobb can except Ramtune. Ramtune for 16 bit ECUs is coming soon as well as speed density (hopefully soon) for 32 bit ECUs.

Yes, I actually have seen others. If I didn't, I would not have posted my thoughts on them.

Every STI graph I've seen always has a lot of mid-range torque. Brad's graphs are the only one's that I see where peak tq is the same as peak hp. I guess he tunes very conservative.... This particular STI is barely hitting stock boost levels. The owner said the throttle response felt the same. I suppose Brad didn't adjust the throttle mapping.

Here is an email from me talking with one of their customers:

I guess you should remind him that he can not simply tune a MY '07 like the previous years, it's just that simple. There are more tables that become affected when adjusting others. Majority of the Pro-tunes that Gabe has seen just learn to lean back out. I have a feeling Brad didn't touch the throttle map? I guess you could ask him? All '07 STIs hold 30% throttle, unless you are near WOT.

By the way, do you know if Brad is aware of what's going on with the '07 STIs?

Ed (Vaus on NASIOC) is very familiar with the '07 STIs. He's probably one of the best out there. Talk to him and see what he has to say. Here is a direct quote talking of what Brad is saying:

Now on to the real point... knock. I mentioned this before in your other thread, but I'll say it again. As you know the 07 ECU's are extremely different especially in terms of their knock management strategy. Where it was easy to determine the presence of knock in previous years, it is not nearly as direct with the 07's. Remember you can't just look at the logged learned ignition values, and you can't just look at the learned dynamic advance table, and you can't just look at the knock field in the logs. It really takes a lot more patience and diligence to pick out knock out of an 07 log.

Thanks
-- Ed

Jav, my concern is that I have an 07 STI which is a TOTALLY different ECU than he is use to tuning. The definitions released for Enginuity aren't even complete for the 07 yet..... see my concern?
