Expect this to get even more bland than the current. That’s where Subaru is intentionally heading.
Think older Chevy Malibu. Applianceville. Think Honda / Toyota of yesteryear.

Does anyone find irony in this past Subaru campaign?

We actually thought it was ironic when they first launched that campaign.

However, the current Outback and Legacy are head turners for me. It's the WRX and STI that are mostly uninteresting.

Intentionally? Like sitting there and saying "Hey, lets make these look more boring. On purpose"? You really believe that?

edit: After reading it again, I see your point is probably they are making this design direction on purpose and you(and others) consider it bland. Sorry

I love showing people this. Yes, I love Subaru; but, disagreed with this campaign cause even I don't think there was anything about Subarus that were "striking". I like the looks; but, weren't more impressive than some other company. Now, THAT paricular KIA......yes. That was an ugly, boring car.

Though the commercials themselves were pretty funny.

RAV & Rogue have optional hybrid powertrains.

Is a hybrid "option" really an "upgrade" though? Rav used to offer a sporty V6, but no longer does. Subaru used to over a sporty turbo 4. Most would consider those "upgrades" in that if money weren't as much of an issue, they'd take the more powerful trims. Most people look at hybrids as a means to save money over a standard model, so I guess in that sense it could be an "upgrade"... I dunno, man. These thoughts keep me up at night.

I thought it was Subaru's motto to be 25% lower in HP than the competition?

If it's 175 hp it'll be less than my $21k Civic.

Re: Forester; The 2019 Rav 4's look great - much better than the Forester, offer more HP, and the hybrid has a range of 600 miles. Uses the 2.5 in the Camry which gets over 200hp

But 250 is only 17% less than 300. I suppose the new 2.4 DIT could be detuned to 225.

Or maybe, by the time Subaru puts the 2.4 in the Legacy, 250 will be 25% down from the competition @ 333hp

Which tread mentioned that Subaru is working on a new trans? We may not see any HP bumps until it reaches production.

Peace,

Greg

The Legacy and Outback have historically gotten a higher HP rating on paper than the Forester.

For the RAV, definitely geared for both more performance and economy. Just Bing the 2019 RAV XSE! (Kidding, go ahead and Google it instead.)

I was like, "I ain't Bingin' jack squat!"

Well it's not like one can't gear a hybrid to be sportier. The FA20DI is spunkier than the previous engine, so I'd assume adding electric would net some sportiness. Kind of a scattered thought, but you probably understand what I'm getting at.

the markings around on the bumpers and grille.. could it be placings for radar?

Could they be testing also a newer version of Eyesight also next to the new turbo engines?

No cladding in new Detroit spy shots.

https://www.motor1.com/news/252748/n...acy-spy-shots/

More Ford Fusion than before. Perfect timing to take over that style too! Just like 2015 STI taking the Lancer style!

So mr Subaru spends billions on a new global platform but can't be farked giving the cars new and spunky designs? Both the new Impreza and legacy look the same as before. A new platform should have allowed the designers more freedom or inspiration to be bolder right?

Like wtf mr Subaru????

To me the 2017 Impreza looks like a good mix of 2008 and 2012. The strengths of both.

Current Legacy is the best-looking Legacy to me.

This new one looks even tamer. I hope it has lobster claw taillights.

still think the tape on the bumpers and grill implement the coming of radar systems to workt with Eyesight.
Also interesting they will bring the 2.4 DIT along in the outback/Legacy. Hope so.
