About 4 or 5 years ago I stupidly paid Seven Hundred Dollars for new pads & Rotors for my then SAAB 9000 Turbo from some chain brake store that claims to be able to turn things to gold with their touch. The brake rotors they used were very poor quality, and the car felt very squirlly under braking from that point onwards. I have learned the hard way that this is one chain store to be avoided at all costs. In my opinion, sixty bucks is a bargin.

Volt- It is cake to install the rotors. Are you changing the pads too? I put mine on Friday. I changed all four rotors and the front pads plus painted my calibers. It took three hours. I took pictures and am going to do a write-up for Scoobymods.com. If you want me to send you the pics and instruction I will. I promise you can do it yourself.

VOLTIS5, I'd say it depends if the time and effort saved is worth $60 to you. If I were hard-pressed for time, I'd probably have it done. Honestly though, from the looks of the instructions, the swap looks like it can be done by twisting a few bolts. I suppose I'll find out since I have to replace my pads soon. What fun. It's a toss up though since I'll probably have to get the rotors turned so I might have the pads installed to save the trouble of having to transport rotors to wherever.

GTBGUY, finally goin legit with an official vendor name. Bout time.

May the B4 be with you!

changing rotors and pads are easy, but they are a major safety system in your car. if you've got no idea of what your doing, it'd probably best to get someone who does to help or show you.

having said that, it is a matter of a few bolts on each side, some brake cleaner, and some anti-squeal stuff.

froggert,
yeah thats the reason why im having someone install it for me cause i haven't done it myself and this person has more knowledge of cars waaaaaaay more than i do and i'd be safer too to let someone else do i rather than my self for the first time.

AG,
maybe you can install it for me "nieghboor"

It is very easy to do.... after somebody has shown you how to do it once.

I was doing my pads for the first time and got stuck at a certain point then the dude painting my parent's house came over and said: "Oh, just pull that bolt there, then slide the caliper up. Then take out the old pads. Then put the new ones in and use a big clamp to push the piston back in using the old pad as a buffer so you don't ruin the new one."

It worked!

Easy way to do it and you don't have to bleed the brakes (although you should since some air is probably forced into the system).

I did my rotors for the first time friday and also put in new pads. Took about 3 hours, but I was taking frequent brakes because I was sick.

Buy the Haynes or Chilton manual, get a friend and find a few hours one of these days and try it yourself.

You basically just take off the wheel, loosen and remove one bolt, take out the pads, compress the piston after removing the cap on the brake fluid reservoir, install new pads, reinstall bolt and reinstall wheel.

Bleeding brakes isn't necessary.

If you go to my page, and read up on the brake upgrade i did, it'll give you a general idea of what's really involved in replacing everything. Even that wasn't too hard, as Subaru's interchangeability in the drivetrain and chassis is second to none.
