not sure if it was ever posted or not, but the front swaybar is 22mm, I read that the other day in the repair manual differences section.

For those with the airbag light coming on, the technician should call the SOA Tech Line and then they will authorize warranty replacement of whatever part is defective, at least that's what they did for me.

Buy what you want but they are not all that comparable, one is an economy car with AWD that is a great daily driver and the other is an AWD sport car that is fun and also a good daily driver (just a lot more expensive to drive daily).

There is also the longevity of a 2.0 liter vs. the WRX turbo motor. I suspect the 2.0i will run a lot longer without needing repairs and there will be a lot less expense for necessary repairs (and the clutch will probably last longer as well).

One can AVERAGE 30mpg+ with regular gas, and the other will get that occasionally on the highway using premium fuel (but realistically you'll probably be seeing low-mid 20's overall).

You sound like you want to be convinced to buy an 'underpowered' 2 liter economy car when you really want a sports car. In that case get the WRX, otherwise you will be here constantly complaining that you bought the wrong car.

You could do what I do, drive a fantastic economical daily driver and keep a sportbike in your garage for when you want to induce whiplash. If that isn't an option get the WRX.

I would love to have a WRX but I don't want to trade MPG's for power -- I didn't even consider buying the previous generations of the Impreza because it was a gas hog compared to similar size cars (the 2011 Impreza with a 2.5 liter engine got about the same mileage as my wife's 2011 Nissan Rogue -- the Rogue is a lot bigger and has better ground clearance for driving in the snow and wasn't all that more expensive, either).

Keep in mind that $4.00 isn't a government mandated ceiling for the price of gas. No matter who is in the White House it will probably start climbing again (especially when the economy starts growing and the demand for oil starts increasing worldwide again).

You may not want to be filling a sports car if the price of gas hits $5/gallon for premium. But then again, some people like driving big cars like hummers and don't complain about the price of gas 'cause they're ballers.

That's why many of us are buying the fuel efficient Impreza... Of course it is also cheaper to buy than the WRX, so that's a lot of savings right there.
makes perfect sense.
I think I'm going with the Impreza Wagon, like i read somewhere else on this thread I'm still young and have plenty of time to buy a sports car in the new future...im by no means a baller....working at a Target warehouse and going to school id rather save as much money as i can on gas and maintenance.
& they look just as good as the wrx wagon.

I think that is a good choice, I am probably alive because I didn't have a sports car or a motorcycle when I was in my 20's!

When you are deciding on what to get I recommend you buy a Premium or Sport. Even if the price is slightly higher it will hold its value better (cause it has things like cruise control and you can add options like heated seats, etc) and alloy wheels.

It will also be better for you to drive with the amenities included!

If you want a taste of the WRX experience, get the 5 Speed --- it will save you some dough to spend on the Premium or Sport and paddle shifters are for posers

HAHA- I'm totally a poser, these paddle shifters are not anthing to write home about... but I find 5-speeds are ridiculous in a non-sports car. Just my debased two cents

I believer Zeeper is talking about paddle shifters in a 2.0 Impreza not paddle shifters in general. The new Impreza is not and will not ever be a performance car nor was it intended to be. Granted there will eventually be aftermarket companies that will build intakes, exhaust and lowering components but louder and lower do not always equal faster.

Nah, we prefer a mob mentality to beat him up a little on it. :-)

I'll let my buddy (baller) know the 458 he's looking at is for posers since it has paddle shifters, and his SMG M3 totally is too.

End of my douchebaggery. ;-)

Lol at this discussion.

But in seriousness: the paddle shifters are a nice alternative to having only one low gear in the base 2.0i

I confess: I totally feel like a poser these days. After driving stick for over two decades my hand naturally rests on the shifter. If this were a normal AT, at least I could potentially be shifting. But in this car I laugh at myself because there is never the possibility of that hand doing anything!

I am in the same boat. Yeah... it is technically my wife's car, and that is why we got the CVT over the 5 speed (the car it replaced was a 5 speed). I pretty much only use the paddle shifters to do some mild engine braking in the hills and mountains.

They can be fun, but paddle shifters are more of a novelty and a way for my wife to convince me that an automatic/CVT was okay to buy.

hey, at least it's your wife's car. this is my car, but i gave up my stick so that in the off chance my wife needs to drive us or my car, she can drive it (that's probably 2-3% of the time).

i found that in using the paddle shifters to occasionally vary RPMS during my break in 1000 miles, i grew tired of using them. weird since they should be less effort that pushing a clutch pedal and shifting...but i think driving a 5spd became second nature to me after all those years. using the paddle shifters is not natural to me, hence i get bored/tired of doing it after just a few lights / start ups and decelerations.

True that, i just wrecked my 06 BSM LGT =( so I'm looking at taking it easy for now & hopefully insurance on a Impreza won't be as high. 5sp always man, i can't drive automatic i never learned how
I was looking into the Impreza Limited for the leather seats and all but they don't make them 5 spd!!!!!! & as for the sports I'm not really feeling the two tone although i seen on the 2012 impreza picture thread an all red Sports Impreza idk if you can op out of the two tone or what?

LOL on the "never learning to drive" automatic comment.

it actually has taken a lot of getting used to driving a CVT after years of 5spd driving for me. i've gotten used to the CVT "whine" but i still do silly things like shut the car off in gear and forget to put it into park until i try to remove my key. and then, of course, my foot isn't on the brake, so i have to pause again to put my foot on the brake, and then shift it into park.

insurance on my impreza 5dr is very good. it's 15% less than my 13 year old Honda Civic coupe!

I had this same sensation in the Outback I had as a rental. Fun at first, but very quickly just let the auto do it's thing. haha

If I were to get an Impreza BECAUSE of gas mileage I'd just go for the CVT. After going from an STI to a Forester XT 5MT to a WRX, a 5-speed in an Impreza would only frustrate me and I'd constantly be making excuses for it, whereas with the CVT I'd be all, "Eh, it's a CVT. What can ya do? *shrug*"

haha that happens to me all the time when i drive my sisters corolla....im like why doesn't this **** go into park?!?!
i just can't drive automatic, I've never owned one and it just seems boring to me even if its not a sports car...
found out only 3 color option on the sport wagon are two tone so i might go with the Sports Premium Camelia Red Pearl....
on the build your own section it doesn't let me remove the pzev option, is that standard on all?

after april 1, i think all Imprezas coming out are PZEV so it's no longer a choice regardless of the state you are in.

If you have the CVT and it isn't the base model make sure you tell your friends in the Nissan GTR and Porsche 911 Turbo that your car has paddle shifters before you race for their pink slips.

You don't want to mislead them into thinking they have an advantage on you.

badge: i have been going back and forth about debadging the car...and in some partial form like removing the HUGE pzev badge from the car. my only reluctance is if i ever sold the car (i usually keep cars a long way), it might be better to have the PZEV badge to easily show that it is indeed to a pzev car to the prospective buyer.

i would have been much happier if they stuck to a sticker to show the PZEV status like other car manufacturers (or as they do in the sport model).

shopping: BTW, i hope you are aware of the fact that they have stopped taking orders on the 2012s and from what i understand, they will start taking orders on the 2013s in June...i don't know when the promised delivery on the latter would be.

Gee...if I just held off a couple of months...oh yeah, needed a new car ASAP.

As for the gap between manufacturing, wonder if they are switching anything between model years. Maybe minor improvements to the interior? Better seats?

Honda: sadly, i am longtime honda/acura guy who jumped ship.

the new honda civic handled like a corolla/hyundai; ie, there was no road feel or soul to the driving experience.

the car, was, for what it's worth, very quiet and had plenty of power from the engine even mated with a 5spd automatic.

i can't say i've had a ton of experience with subaru 5spds (drove my friends 1999 Outback several times) but one area where Honda excels, IMHO, is the feel of their manual transmissions. i didn't drive the latest generation 5/6 spd, but i'm assuming that the Honda MT is still very good.

Previous 2 EG's both single camV d16z6 & one Ek Coupe Single Cam.... I love Hondas!!!! & its true their manuals are awesome long revs ftw =D
i just don't like the looks of the newer models I'm a pre 2000 Honda Fan
new Si's for how much they go for is a good deal i just thnk they look more like a girls car now, like you said a corolla.
Greats cars too just newer chassis not for me & TSX is way out of my price range.

i guess ill have to keep shopping man, hopefully i can get my hands on a partially used subie

Where are you located? I seem to be seeing plenty of four doors around, just not any 5 doors.
