True, but paint thickness is not, Subaru is notorious for thin paint.

Btw, BMW paint is among the best.

The bumper of my '02 is peeling like a damn Neon! Had no problems with my '93. Definitely deters me from going with another Subie.

I will say, though, it's definitely a step up design-wise. Really looking forward to what the wrx/sti have to offer.

Does anyone know if the roof rails have folding crossbars like the Outback does? It'd be awesome if it did.

Doesn't look like the Outback ones, but it might.

I'd say that the chipping on my 09' WRX with 46,000 miles on it is on par with my 1989 Mustang 5.0, except that the paint on the Mustang doesn't scratch when you touch it.

You're in MD - I'm not sure what part, but I travel Interstate 80 in Iowa/Illinois for around 50 miles/day and there's plenty of **** thrown all over the place. My wifes Hyundai Santa Fe is BLACK (my car is DGM), and gets washed at the ****ty tunnel-wash with rotating chamois like brushes and doesn't have a scratch on it (I hand wash mine with a nice, clean mit). Hell, she puts more miles on her car than I do and she only has four rock chips while my car has somewhere North of 20.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that Subaru paint is thinner than the rest, but it sure is chip-prone.

No, they're just conventional roof rails.

my 02 WRX and 04 Forester XT chipped so badly on the front that I clear-bra'd my 05 STi and my wife's 08 spec.B. About 1 mm above my clearbra on the hood, there's a freaking rock chip. Subie paint blows...

My Tribeca hasn't had any real issues with paint chipping. Cosmetically, it has had problems with the paint on the spoiler thing oxidizing rather rapidly. My big complaint isn't really the paint but the fact Subaru's get dimpled/dinged VERY easily. At one point, my doors were looking like a damn golf ball but luckily my neighbor across the street has a "Dentmaster" business.

Puddle lights... are these available on the new Impreza? They are a really cool feature on my Tribeca and I'd love to see them available on ALL Subaru models.

Not only thin paint but by far the WORST paint job I have ever seen on a new car. Coming from Toyota the Subaru paint is probably just as bad as GM. I see a new custom paint job in my near future. My buddy who owns a Lexus and is a car freak like me was checking out my paint and was amazed at the orange peel left by the Subaru folks. He thought his Z06 was bad until he saw my 2010 Lightning Red WRX.

To avoid paint chips, scrapes, nicks, on your car simply leave it in the garage.

Isn't there a different "bitch about Subaru's paint" thread somewhere else? I keep checking this thread for info on the 2012 Impreza but not finding any.

A jetski and trailer isn't a "small thing", and the distance isn't going to matter as far as SOA is concerned. IIRC, the current Imprezas are rated to tow 1000#, which is typical for US cars. The WRX and STI are now excluded from towing, which is total nonsense.

FWIW, my 2002 Outback Sport (with only 130,000 mi) has NO paint chips whatsoever. That includes plenty of highway travel, hail storms, salt trucks, and gravel roads.

Now, can we please resume our normally scheduled thread

Default FHI executive explains the improvements of the new Impreza

https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...EZZpDY0c#at=20

This video is a little frustrating in that this executive's command of the English language is only fair at best, so he's somewhat hard to understand. I've found this to be true of other FHI executives as well.

Ha you beat me to the video.

But very impressed at the new utility of the hatch (cubbies/ability to hide away the privacy screen, etc.).

In small thing, I meant light. I easily lift it and wheel it by hand in and out of the garage.

I'm on the same page; in terms of towing it's not light either. Unless you've got a very small PWC it's going to weigh 400#+, add in an aluminum trailer and you're over 700# (best case). An Impreza will easily tow this, whether or not SOA will allow you to do so and keep a full warranty remains to be seen.
