Default So, I'm going to be buying tires this weekend....

....and here's some things that I came up with:

1. First off, the tires that are currently on my car are the wrong size. Period. According to several places, the stock WRX tire size is 205/55/16...and the tires on my car now (a worn set of Hankook H714s) - 205/65/16. WTF???

2. I'm thinking about going up to a bigger tire size. Would a 225/50/16 tire work on a stock '03 WRX rim? It's for a wagon with a stock suspension/ride height.

3. Here's some of the tires that I was looking at:

Hankook V4ES - like it alot, looks like a good tire - $105

HP259 - its a generic NTB tire, but it's made by yokohama and its cheap - $80

Potenza RE960AS Pole Position - expensive (to me) at 135, but looked good

Potenza RE760 Sport - $115

Fierce UHP - Goodyear generic, made by Kelly. Looks like it would have zero snow traction (even with awd, lol), but its $96... eh.

Bridgestone G019 Grid - not exactly a HP tire, but its still v-rated and has a 50k mi warranty. $95

I'm going to be putting these on in my auto tech class at a community college I attend here in the KC area on monday (woohoo!) so any advice would be way appreciated.

Thanks,

-Adam

Something at least v-rated, but is going to work in the winter (at least somewhat), for they are going on the stock rims.

I guess you could say all-seasons, but in no way the weaksauce.

RE960AS. They got my '06 GTO through a winter safely.

What I'm looking for really is an "all-season performance" tire that isn't going to break the bank. That's all.

i think 225 is a bit too big for a 6.5" wide rim but if you want it, have at it. it'll be more form over function.

ContiExtremeContact, ExtremeContact DWS, Eagle GT, RE960AS

Will soon be buying tires for our '06 Impreza 2.5i, will probably get either of the Continentals.

+1 to stanjk3.
If you buy summer tires you will regret it in winter.
RE960AS would be my favourite.

I wouldnt do that....that size is squishy on a 6.5" wheel...especially in an AS tire
205/55 is fine

Hankook V4ES - like it alot, looks like a good tire - $105 JUNK

Potenza RE960AS Pole Position - expensive (to me) at 135, but looked good GREAT AS tire

Potenza RE760 Sport - $115 GREAT TIRE ding-ding-ding

Fierce UHP - Goodyear generic, made by Kelly. Looks like it would have zero snow traction (even with awd, lol), but its $96... eh. more junk
