The only sizes avaiable 215/55/16 or 245/50/16. Which would you suggest I get?
What's the stock size on fd's?

Bump up the jams! Any updates, review, new Federal tire owners?

I ended up snagging some Hankook Ventus V12 evos in 225/50/16s off Craigslist for my RX7 FD wheels.

I could not pass up a deal on some 5-ZIGEN Fn01r-C 18x8.5s et48. So I am back in the market for some Federals. These will be used as my DD setup.

Option #1: 225/45/18 - SS595
Option #2: 225/40/18 - SS595
Option #3: 235/40/18 - SS595
Option #4: 225/40/18 - 595 EVO
Option #5: 225/40/18 - 595 RS-R
Option #6: 235/40/18 - 595 RS-R

had the 595ss on my dsm in 245/45/17, they poked a bit on an 8.5" wide wheel. i had no issues with the 595ss tires.

now thinking about the 595rsr's in 265/35/18 for a 10" wide wheel.

Federal's run wider than advertised. My 215's are almost as wide as 225's. Also, there is no point in comparing the SS595 and 595R. The SS595 is not nearly as performance oriented as the EVO's or 595R with the 595R having a better compound and stiffer sidewalls. I had the SS595 and took them back for the EVOs. The 595R's were not available at the time. I am very happy with my EVO's albeit I do not have an overly agressive setup either. The 595R's rock but the tread won't last (160wear rating). EVO's are great for a DD. Grip is pretty good (240wear rating) and the sidewalls are decent.

ran 'em pretty hard this past summer (no autocross or HPDE but quick street) and i was pleasantly surprised in terms of wear.

that said, they're cheap and grippy as hell and so i have realistic expectations.

i keep reading that the ss595 tends to run a bit wider than stated.

On my 11 sti sedan, I am running 255/35/18 on 9" rims for summer. I am guessing i will be better off to run 245/40/18 instead?

Federals do run wider. Rick and I ran them on our wrx's this past summer and they look brandy new still, very pleased with them. I ran 225/40/18's on my 9" and he ran 235/40/18's on his 9.5". Great tires in our opinion

i had ss595's (225/40r18) on my wrx with 18x7.5 wheels and thought they were great. i now have an sti so 18x8.5(prodrive gt1). should i stick with 245/40r18 or bigger. is it worth going to the rs-r and pay an extra $50 a tire?

I've had mine (245/40/17) for about 3 months and i am very pleased with them. I've only put about about 1k on them but they have done very well in heavy rains, dusty roads and uneven surfaces. Grip is good for the price too. I paid about $450 out the door at my local tire shop.

Just had my Federals mounted and balanced. So far I like them and they are slightly wider than the Falken RT-615 that I had before. 235/40/17 on 17x8

This picture ^^^ was exactly what I needed to see!!!

Ok, so here's the deal. My brother has XXR 522 wheels I believe in 17x8 and he needs new tires. I told him about the Falken 452's and these Federal 595ss tires. The car is an 05 rs that is dd driven but he wants a decent tire when he does drive it aggressively. We're up here in Idaho so need a tire that can handle some rain but be good in the dry, no need for something for the colder temps just late spring, summer and early fall.

For the Falken 452 I am not sure on size...

From that picture in the previous post the 235/40R17 would be about right.

The car has sti struts with lowering springs that have a drop of maybe 1 1/2" up front and 1" in the rear? So, would this size tire work even with the car being lowered some?

I'm not sure how these are in the rain yet. Here is a crappy comparison between my old Falkens and the Federals

OK, how about this, what tire pressure to run?

2006 WRX wagon, stock rims, SS595 215/45/17.

Front and rear pressure?

Anyone...

There's no right or wrong. You'll need to experiment with tire pressures to see what works for you. You can use the settings on the inside of your door as a starting point.

I'm actually at 35 PSI all around cold, just looking for any additional advice from folks running the SS595 and what works for them.

The car is new to me and came with these tires on it so I'm still sorting it all out. Thanks

what I do is increase tire pressures 2psi at a time until it becomes apparent that you have too much, then back off 4-5psi and run for a bit and adjust more as necessary
most UHP and MAX performance tires will take pretty extreme driving to tell just where the sweet spot is, so dont do it on the street

i have found that my 06 wrx likes tire pressures within ~1psi for the F/R

my 02 wrx liked ~2 - 4psi more in the front than the rear, depending on the tire

and if you dont have a good tire pressure gauge, none of this will matter as much as cheap gauges arent usually accurate enough to make even 1psi changes reliably
