Default Arashi TD06SL2 18G Review

I will be using this thread to review and track my progress as I E-Tune the 18G with IA Tuning. The Arashi 18G is installed on my 07 FXT. I broke in the turbo for 600 miles before retuning with IA Tuning.

I previously had a cheap ebay 20G made by JM Turbo. The turbo lasted about 5k miles before I got insane boost creep. Turbo was $200 picked up in Alhambra, CA, so i'm not really complaining too much.

I ordered the 18G with their new adjustable actuator through an ebay vender and received the turbo within a week from Taiwan. Out the box it was packaged very well. Installation was fairly easy, although I did strip my uppipe bolt causing my car to be down for 2 months LOL. Once installed, no leaks, doesn't burn oil.

Post 2 will house the data log information and what I think at that point. The only thing I think i'm missing is a turbo blanket and MAYBE a turbo heatshield.

Why I chose 18G over the 20G?
I live in Los Angeles, and I wanted something that didn't have a lot of lag. When I purchased the FXT it had a VF39 and I was seeing boost around 2200. When I upgraded, I missed the quickness of the spool. Based on what I read from others, the 18G spool was the closest. With the 20G, honestly it wasn't bad, i was seeing boost around 2900, it it holds to redline. I would have kept the ebay 20G installed if it didn't start developing boost creep. Looking back I think I should have went 20G as they are the same price from Arashi. Although I think this feeling of regret is only because I had a 20G previously.

Why I chose E-Tune over Pro-Tune?
When I installed the 20G with ID1000 last year, I needed a tune ASAP. No one was available, so I looked up reputable E-Tuners on the forums. Based on pricing I found Stephen Clark at IA Tuning. There were others mentioned more frequently, but pricing played a key role in my decision. The tuning time also mattered, most E-Tuners, only allow 30 days of tunes, vs IA's 60 days

It has been a wonderful experience. I provide the datalogs in the evenings and he gets back to me next day. Even after my tuning period was over, he still made some adjustments to my maps for me. So the choice to re-tune with IA was a no brainer.

Obvious downside is that I'm not on a dyno and don't know what my power/torque outputs are.

Plus I do not intend on pro tuning until I do a 6 speed swap.

Stephen Clark provided me with a base map when I purchased the retune. I will start at version C.

Process is pretty simple, Stephen asks that you select specific monitors for the datalogs. I warm up the car to 160+ temp, then perform the idle logs. It consists of 60 seconds of just idling, 60 seconds with the RPM at 2k, 60 seconds with the RPM at 3k, then idle for 60 seconds. Driving log is next, which is normal driving nothing special. Last log is WOT, which is a 3rd gear pull at 2500 to 5500 RPM.

Date: 4/2
Version: C
Idle and Driving logs are pretty straight forward, and the car feels great. For WOT, I found a long on ramp, as I turn onto the on ramp, I shift into 3rd and proceed to ease into WOT. Based on the datalogs, I actually went WOT earlier than I thought. By 2000 RPM my throttle was at 100% and I am starting to see boost. I hit full boost by 4900 which is 18 lbs, then I start to drop in pressure. It is about 8 seconds from the time I see boost to the time I start to drop. by the time I hit 5500 RPM, I am at 15.64 lb of boost. Timing wise, that's a little over a second from full boost to 5500.
