Default '11 WRX sedan, 2 issues, Radio backlight, and AC only blows cold on max temp

So far I have been enjoying having my WRX and making little changes here and there, but the past few days have not been nice to me.

I just recently noticed that the backlight on my stock radio failed, I can only see the display if I am in my dimly lit garage. radio still works fine, wondering if anyone has an easy fix or if i should get an aftermarket stereo and just be done with it.

Second issue is that just today I noticed when I don't have my temp knob all the way to the max cold setting, the air that blows is warm, drastically warmer than AC should be on a slightly less than max setting.
Anyone have any idea what the fix for this could be?

The only thing to note on anything that has changed was that my brother and I, he went to school for audio, installed a small sub this past weekend, July 13th. The sub is not anything overly outrageous, just a 300W RMS 8 inch sub in a pre mounted box from Pioneer. Sub is under the driver seat and amp is under the passenger seat.
I had the display issue on the stereo pop up on Monday the 15th, and just noticed the AC today, the 17th.
I would like to think that because the radio was and still is working fine that it is unrelated to the AC temp issue, but i understand it could be.

Any potential leads to answers or fixes are appreciated. Thank you.

EDIT: just drove the car on lunch break and didn't encounter same issue so just looking for advice on stereo for now. When reading other threads about AC system the general consensus is that the system is finicky at times and a few resets fix it.

This is usually a temperature sensor, either cabin or ambient.

If your brother was cutting into stereo wiring, anything is possible.

Soldered with shrink tubing is best. Anything electrical taped is sure to come apart with time.

The stock radio is the weak point of the audio system, I would have replaced that if you were taking the time to install an amp and sub. Worth considering since you will need to pull it back out to inspect the wiring.

No cutting of wiring was done. there was a pre-built wire harness that plugs into the harness on one end and the back of the deck on the other. I consider it an automotive sin to cut into any factory harness. If I can find a pigtail to connect first and then butcher that if I must so be it but I avoid splicing factory harnesses at all cost unless it is 110% unavoidable, which knock on wood has never happened since I have been owning and fixing vehicles.

I also figured out that the backlight issue can be remedied during the day by turning my headlights off. I assume this is due to one of the cables for the dimming of the deck. I would like to know if disconnecting the dimmer cable will just cause the display to be full bright all the time because i leave my headlights on all the time.

I fully intend to replace the stock stereo eventually but as it sits right now i would be out at least $450 getting the replacement I want installed, just for the parts. As the stock stereo with the added sub is everything i can ask of it for now I am content until something breaks horribly or i find something else that I really don't like about it.

I just found out that I have to put some work into the suspension as the sway bar bushings front and back are bad, according to the shop, and a front lower ball joint is bad. I also occasionally notice some clatter in the front struts so I plan on replacing ball joints, upper and lower, strut assemblies up front, and sway bar bushings front and back then getting a 4 wheel alignment to wrap it all up. going to be at least $700 out of pocket for all that...
