Default 2008 STI: Turboback and tune - 91 and 100 octane

As some of you know, we've been busy working on some 2008 STIs lately. I just finished tuning this one last night.

2008 STI w/ BBS
650 miles
Catless Turboback
California 91 Octane
Protuned Cobb Accessport

[CLICK HERE FOR A LARGER GRAPH]
Turboback:231WHP / 262 TQ
Custom Tuned w/ Turboback: 264WHP / 297TQ

Running the car on the Mustang MD500SE

The 2008 STI spools considerably faster than the earlier single AVCS motors. It's also making more torque than comparable 2007 STIs on this dyno. Horsepower is right in-line with the 2007.

Like our shop STI, this car has the SI-drive reprogrammed for improved throttle response and driveability.

91 Octane: 264WHP / 297TQ
100 Octane: 282WHP / 336TQ

I'm putting together some graphs comparing the 2008 to a similarly prepped and tuned 2007. I'll post them up tomorrow.

I was at Kevin's shop when he got back with the car tonight. First time I've seen an '08 STi in person and I have to say I kind of like it. It sounded pretty sweet too. Good work Dan.

PS: Talked to Ian today about my car and upcoming tune. I hope I can get in to see you guys soon.

What brand is the TBE? Is it a DP only?

How much faster?

So basically, is this car going to be pure sex when more twinscroll GT series kits hit the market?

Because if for mid sized turbos it appears you already get a couple hundred rpm in spool time w/ single AVCS, and you get a couple hundred more from twinscroll....

TBE = turbo back exhaust

what was the horsepower with the stock exhaust? I must be missing something, isn't that a protuned "stage 2" setup.

tbe = dp + ANY cb

ex. cobb catted dp + OEM cb on a 07 STI w/ 91 Costco gas on the same dyno --- see below

wow so it seems like the 08 spools around 500rpm quicker and holds 300tq for a bit longer than the 07.. thats neat

am i reading things wrong ?

I see an 07 above with just a DP has pretty much the same numbers on 91 as the 08 with a TBE ? I dont see the 08 making more power with the same mods/same fuel/same dyno.

I think what they are saying is that it doesn't have more peak power, just a broader power band. Correct me if I am wrong though.

Notice peak torque on the 08 is at 2800rpms, the 07 has peak torque at 3600. It also holds that torque at 240 at 6400, where the 07 has dropped to 240 by 5900.

Long story short, 08 powerband > 07 powerband

No you are just reading peak power numbers.

Um if 1300 more rpms of power band is your idea of "slightly larger" then ok. I guess a 20% increase really is no big deal...

This makes me wonder if the new JDM has the same dual AVCS heads. If so... V.7 block+new 2.0 JDM dual-AVCS heads ftw!

area under the curve has been increased

long story short: 08>07 in initial tuning results so far.

Would it be possible to overlay the the 2007 plot with the 2008 plot?

I wonder how much the increased spool (again wrong but popular word, should be boost threshold) is attributed to the turbo vs the dual AVCS?
