Looking for some second "educated" thoughts here on tire sizes. Im looking to get some winter tires on my 17" stock wheels and would like to size up a bit. The stock tires on '12 impreza sport premium are 205/50R17. I want to get a hint more height for the winter so I was thinking upwards of 215/55R17 or 215/60R17. I hit a lot of snow in the winter so even an inch or two extra clearance would make a world of difference.

I am aware there are wheel/tire threads and I looked through many. looked online at many posts and wheel comparisons. I also used this site to kinda help see the differences ( http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp ) but it isnt telling me what I need to know.
Anyone have experience with diff tire sizes on same wheels?
I need to know if the tires will rub the wheel-well when i turn, corner, car is loaded with 5 passengers, just normal use i guess..any input is appreciated!

yes there will be rubbing especially with the 215/60. 215/55 is pushing it, you could but i could see it rubbing if you were to hit a bump and were turning at full lock at the same time. you could just buy strut spacers. then you could run a taller tire and increase ground clearance.

In changing my panel filter I came across what looked like a second filter that was facing into the air intake. It is held in place by 4 small rubber grommets and 2 plastic rivets. It appears to come off if you remove the rivets. Has anyone else removed this part. I don't plan to just curious as to what other people have done when replacing their filter.

I am unaware this even existed, I personally would probably leave it as is; since, I have a K&N panel filter and all.

Now that you're saying that I do have the PZEV model. I didn't even think about that. Thats probably why it has two and others seem to only have the single filter. I will check next time I am at the dealership.

So what happens when you remove it for your PZEV? It would improve airflow but will it throw a CEL?

My car is PZEV and I have that also. I installed a Perrin foam filter and left that in place.

Since it is white it should indicate if the Perrin is filtering! When you go to the dealer see if you can get the part number and price because I may change it occasionally.

I just looked and that second panel is not in my eBay Subaru Service Manual (PDF).

Does the filter touch the secondary filter? If so, then any oil-type drop in filter will probably transfer oil onto it?

I haven't had a chance to install it yet, been quite busy with work and also sound deadener installs best when its warm, which means I would have to warm my garage up prior to installation (which is kind of a pain). I've read that installing sound deadener (one layer) will reduce road noise by 3-7 decibels.

Im not sure why you consult an aftermarket company about stock parts. The default answer is leave it. But in reality im sure taking it out would be fine. I dont remember seeing one on mine.
