What type of tuning needed for bigger TMIC?
I am seriously considering the Ebay TMIC for my 2002 WRX. I have seen numerous posts stating that the addition of a larger IC will have little benefit without a re-tune. My question is, what type of tuning is needed? Will the larger IC allow a more aggressive timing curve or a leaner AFR? Does the IC change cause the open loop fueling to no longer achieve the original target AFR?
I've never seen anyone post that a larger TMIC is detrimental without a tune, only that there isn't much benefit. Can anyone elaborate on how to get the most out of a big TMIC? Thanks.

And I'd just like to add, that if you're concerned with heatsoak, get the front mount if you paln on ever stepping up to a bigger turbo, injectors, fuelpump, with a tune. Just don't get one so big that it completely fills the lower grill space, as it will cause a drop in spool time due to the huge volume of air to move, and the fact that it'll block airflow to you radiator. The greddy is a nice happy medium But I guess it all depends on you overall future plans. Good luck. |

To truly get the gains of the bigger TMIC, you should get a Protune.

As further information, my car appears to be running a fairly aggressive timing map already, and I am seeing knock correction values as low as 3 or 4 in some load areas (IAM = constant 16). I am hoping that the larger TMIC might allow the car to take advantage of the existing map and run some higher knock correction and make more power. Any other info or opinions appreciated. |

if someone says they can feel the difference, that is the same person that says i can feel the difference after putting a k&n filter on their car and say its faster. if i were you to get it tuned id wait till you get a few more items on your car before you get a custom tune. imo.. save for the tune later |

my wastegate duty cycle got totally F'ed up after i installed perrin tmic. (had sti tmic before). I have ecutek with smaller restrictor pill with 19psi peak. Right now, my WDC is nearly 20 or even 0% during cold nights due to weather correction factor. This is because stock tmic (even sti tmic) is sooo restrictive, with the new bigger tmic, turbo doesn't have to work hard as it used to. (longer life on turbo)
I ended up buying perrin ebcs to control boost. I just can't wait to retune my car with ebcs and SMC kit. |

MORE TIMING (do some logs and if there is no knock, go up in very small intervals ***consult with a tuner regarding safe timing parameters***) MORE BOOST (same thing, go some logs). Seems to me from your last statement that you already have a pretty good idea of what to do. Since you see that you have some slight knock, figure out what rpm that is happening and pull a degree or 2 of timing out of there and see what happens. The tmic should allow you to run your "aggressive" timing while keeping knock at bay. |

I have a turboxs fmic on my wrx, and after I put it on it felt like a kick in the balls, I couldn't really tell any lag differences, I love it

I added a Hyperflow TMIC to a completly stock car because I hapened to have one laying around. I didn't really notice anything at lower speeds but when I was at freeway speed it seemed to have a bit more pull. Plus my TMIC NEVER gets hot. with the stock TIMC after a few hard pulls it would get to hot to touch, now I can run as hard as I want for a while and it still is cool to the touch. Being stage 2 you should see some nice gains.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. Looks like I'll head over to Ebay, and see what I can find. I'll probably just bolt it on and see what my knock correction logs look like. Should be an interesting test. If my KC numbers go up, it should be a good indicator that the larger IC is keeping the engine happier.
