reinforce? no you cant, the only way would be to again spend 3-4 grand on building it with PPG gears. you are better off with a 6 speed swap at the same price range. or a package deal from one of the venders

If you mod your car, do it to make you happy and have fun with it. Don't do it just because you want to beat your buddy's Z28. I've had both cars and what your asking is not easy, nor is it economical. He's got 275 bhp stock and can run 13.5 to 13.7 in the 1/4 mile. Even if you bought a stock WRX you couldn't hang with him. Save your money and have fun with your car in other ways. Find a local Rallycross or Autocross event and see what kind of fun you can really have in these cars. Sure these cars can be really fast, but it usually takes Mega$$ to get them there. Plus your buddy can always invest about 6 grand and be deep into the 11 second range. Eventually you guys will just get to the point where you'll both whip 'em out to see who's is bigger.

Sure, he could lose to a WRX due to bad launch and shifting, but a 2.2 Impreza L? Like I've said, I owned both at the same time. My Suby was a '95 and I believe it was factory rated at 135 bhp. The driver of the Camaro would have to be comatose to lose that race.

A long time ago my friend had an RS with a ludespeed turbo kit. The transmission held up just fine and ran a 13 flat at the 1/4 before he finally blew a piston ring. So many paths for your goals. Set a budget and go from there.
Any swap will require a comlete rewiring job. A wrx swap with bolt ons in that car will haul ass. |
