Post JDM 2.0 wrx turbo in 2.5 rs?

Does anyone do that? I wanted to put the JDM 2.0 wrx stock turbo, intercooler, all the piping and manifoid in my MY00 2.5 RS. Would this work? Is it hard to install? What I have to modtify to make the kit fit properly? Thanks in advance!

Henry

Henry,

What are you wanting to do? Do you want to use the WRX turbo setup on an EJ25 engine?

Or do you want to swap an EJ20 turbo into your car to replace the EJ25?

If the first, it'll work ok, but not great. You'll have awesome torque off the line up until about 4K RPM, then the tiny little stock turbo will start heating the air so much that any extra boost pressure will be counterproductive.

If you put a properly sized turbo on there for an EJ25, you'll need bigger up and down pipes, and an exhaust manifold. At which point you'll have been better off just getting a purpose built EJ25 turbo kit.

There are a couple of us in process of doing this and a couple people that have accomplished this already. Since us US folk have a hard time sourcing WRX parts, we have used '91-'94 legacy turbo parts instead. Same piping, just a slightly different turbo. If this WRX is a MY96+ then you will not be able to use the intercooler. They changed the intake manifolds and so the IC is now deeper than what the EJ25 will allow.

My site should have just about all the information you would need to get this kit up and running. Mine will be done a week into June (hopefully).

outback motorsports:

For the '98 DOHC, you can just bolt all these pieces up without a problem (or so I've been told). However, for the '99+ SOHC the differences in the head design require a 1" spacer in between the exhaust manifold and where the up-pipe bolts up to it. Since this is currently a custom peice made with whatever we can find (gaskets and exhaust flanges for now), how are you going to regulate a downpipe that will always work for these adaptations? If you have something on the back burner... I am very interested

I can call you guys if you would like me to explain further... I am the Jon that bought the lasercut downpipe flange from you guys.
