New air intake or just use H&N filter w/stock
Is their enough difference to justify getting a whole new air intake system (like the Paisley one) as opposed to just using the H&N replacement filter with the stock air intake?

well a replacement filter isnt going to do anything, it might give u a whole 3 hp, versus getting an aftermarket intake thatll prolly give u around 10+ hp so based on this i hope u make the right choice

Save your money and keep the stock intake. It's good for at least 280HP. For the price of some CAIs, you can get exhaust components that will get your twice the horsepower. I don't believe any one who says adding just an intake to a wrx will get them any HP increase. The stock system is very well designed, and is a cold air intake.

IMHO, I would leave the stock intake as the air is gathered from the front of the car where the most air is anyway while the car is in motion, and the only mod I would do to it is to add the inner duct of the prova carbon fiber intake kit found on www.vividracing.com That will eliminate the stock silencer and the slowdown of air it creates and give a more direct path for the air to travel to the engine.

Get your self the RS fender plug for 1.99, the velocity stack from Summit for 23.00, and the K&N.
Poor man's cold air induction. If you're not maping the air on the way in, stick with the factory box. Just don't over oil the filter Many have claimed, none have proved. One interesting thing to note, one of the best WRX tuners uses the factory air box, food for thought. |

button, it's ok! some people are just easily convinced. almost 14 at the wheel?!? come on hp, don't tell us u've got the tornado and got 20 more at the wheel
makofoto, just get a h&n, remove ur silencer, u'll feel the difference. but if u really want "coldair" which i think "how much cooler can it get" i have a demo injen my buddy is selling. pm if u r interested. if that's not "cold" enough.. i'm doing a prototype that would bypass the a/c through the intercooler w/ factory built in on/off switch inside cockpit! sweep |

Current i-club drama points out that certain aftermarket intakes produce power gains by "incorrect" placement of the MAF sensor or altering the tube diameter. You gain power because the ECU/MAF thinks you're moving less air, so less fuel, which leans out the mixture. A stock WRX runs very (safely) rich. IMO turbo cars have the benefit of a hairdryer sucking in air and the reliance on intake tuning is not as critical (on non race type, reasonable HP setups). Put the money towards some good sneakers for your Scooby. |
