Happy Birthday man!

definitely appreciate the pic advice (Lurker as well for the local advice of what i don't understand) everything you explain on here helps quite a bit, even the simple and often forgotten tips, don't leave home w/o a tripod , rule of thirds, etc...

ps. I love my w810i as well and am definitely a Sony fan

Not a Subaru but what do you guys think. Could of used a small amount of flash to high light the wheels I think.

The TT shots above look good... you're getting some significant chromatic abberation (purple fringing) around the lights, so selectively bring down your magenta around them so that they don't distract from the main subject.

LandCruzer94, that first shot is spectacular!

Nice pics, I like the dark theme to them. As far as the wheels go, I wouldn't necessarily use a flash on them...an HDR or at least a stitch with a little more exposure on the wheels will work great. I think that if you were to use a flash or a strobe, it'd take away from the dark theme of the photos.

That being said, this is a big reason why I'm not a fan of black wheels, personally

I agree, Mike...the sponge tool in Photoshop works very well for this as well

Ah the lights, I could of cropped it differently to I guess to remove them if needed. I hardly edit my photos anymore. These probably are the most edited photos I posted on line in a long long time.

I tried to do an HDR but I was getting camera shake. Which is odd since I have a nice Bogen tripod. I just got a remote shutter release in so I have to go back out and try to see if that works.

Car show (and any event coverage) photos aren't easy to critique because I know there's always a lot of things beyond a photographer's control, such as the location, the position of the car, things or people in the background, etc. That said, your first two pics are all right...the first one has a really bright background though, and generally you want to avoid shooting into a backlight like that. The last photo, you cut off the edge of the Range Rover, and there's some mysterious shadow on the left side causing distraction.
Thanks, and thats an AMAZING picture. This is your full-time job right?

Make sure that you use Mirror Lock-Up with your remote...you'll get no camera shake Another way to eliminate (or at least greatly reduce) camera shake without a remote or mirror lock-up is to set your self-timer to 2 sec...click the shutter and let it go

never even thought about that! since my camera didn't come with a remote, i would always try to gently press the buttom down to eliminate any shake... problem solved...

cliff notes, im not very smart

Between these two, the first one I think is the best compositionally. I like the low angle and the angle of the car as well. Given how dark it was though, your only way to do this shot without a tripod is to maybe use the ground to stabilize it (don't be afraid to lie flat on your stomach) and/or raise your ISO to compensate and give you a faster shutter speed.

As for the second shot, I think the reason why it doesn't appeal to me as much is because the top of the photo is just a big empty sky, with artificial lighting reflecting off the cloud. To me personally it's just not very interesting.

Hope this helps!

Armin
