The built in EQ can be canceled out with a hidden menu in the stock HU.
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...ht=hidden+menu I did this yesterday and it helped improve the sound. Good luck! Quote:

If you cancel out factory EQ and turn off loudness the system will sound better? Is this only with aftermarket speakers/sub?

Its with any speakers/sub. It does sound better. Vastly. Of course you will have to adjust your EQ again. Also, when the system is off but the car is on or armed I believe, pressing 1, 4, and tune (the round button/roller to the right) will turn on through mode rather than whatever its tuned to now (for the hatch/sedan model). This levels the frequency through the entire volume range and sounds much better all the time. Try it. 1, 3, tune and 1, 2, tune reset to hatch and sedan modes respectively (they are the same).

O.o Can I turn it back on? Does it work on the 4.3"-display stock HU?

Yes. 1, 3, tune and 1, 2, tune are the preset its already on. Set it to sedan or hatch as per your model, not that it matters, they are exactly the same. 1, 4, tune is the through mode that actually changes how it sounds. That and loudness.

Credit to original poster... "Key in ACC position, radio off: Hold preset button #6 while spinning the right adjust knob 4 or 5 notches; release button, then repeat. Now you're in the adjustable presets pages. Spinning the knob or hitting the "back" button will bring up loudness, EQ, and screen brightness settings, which can be toggled with the knob. Here's the basic setting I arrived at that makes this thing almost sound good: Loudness and EQ both OFF. Back in the regular tone control: Bass -2, Treble +5. The main problems with this system are that the bass is boomy, and the midrange is attenuated at some very peculiar frequencies. And the frequency where the mid tone control is set makes it useless altogether - leave it flat. As for SRS Labs, no (printable) comment. (I was a sound pro and studio musician in NYC for many years, so I might be, y'know, just tad picky!) This setting will give the most natural balance generally, and make the mids sound as close to natural as the unit will allow, especially when you turn up the volume. Now you can adjust the bass and treble slightly as needed per tune, i.e. use the tone controls normally - assuming you've defeated the &^%$# motion lockout (see my How-to post)." |

Thanks i just found the thread with this post. Ill try it soon. Thanks guys.
EDIT: Turned off loudness and EQ this morning. There is a definite difference but I didnt mind how it sounded before. Im not much of a sound guy, but if you guys say music should more like that then Ill leave it. I also put the bass to -2 and treble to +5 like that guy said. Pretty easy and straightforward to do in case anyone is scared to try. Last edited by myrt1987; 01-24-2013 at 08:16 AM. |

I was also thinking that theres probably a way to drill a hole to above the cup holder but under the armrest to illuminate the cup holder area as well.. that makes 5 lights.. now where to place the sixth. . |

Dipstick oil level issue
This is the 3rd time I've gone to a Subaru dealer (twice to the same dealer) for an oil change and all 3 times the dipstick shows, (after the Impreza has sat for 3 hours) a level on the dipstick that is 1/4 to 1/2 inch above the last hole for the full mark. The dealer assured me, they have a machine that is calibrated to fill with the correct amount of oil for my car and this will not cause a problem
My question is - is the dipstick on the 2012 Impreza off (as far as the fill mark) and is the common occurence with other owners? Thanks! |

Thank you soooo much - hearing from someone who did their own oil change and knows the exact amount of oil put in , eases my concerns about the crankcase NOT being overfilled even though the dipstick shows otherwise

fwiw, I've noticed that my car downshifts/engine brakes a lot less after getting my transmission TSB done on Tuesday. I'm used to it always downshifting down a hill, and now it only seems to do it from time to time. My car was built after the first TSB for engine braking, so this is something totally different.

It is plastic but gives you a cushion for someone to hit instead of your bumper

On the topic of sway bars, a question. I really want to upgrade the sway bar at the back to reduce body roll and understeer. My question is this, there is the perrin option at 22mm, and the STI option at 19mm. Is 19mm a significant enough difference to seriously improve the performance of the car? Is 22mm going to be too much and unbalance the handling in some form? Also, has anyone been able to or felt the need to put a thicker sway bar on the front?

^ This is why I haven't upgraded my stock front sway bar. If I wanted to make the car drift, I would do this upgrade, but right now I'm most interested in predictable behavior in slippery conditions.
