---------------------*NEWEST 2016 UPDATE*--------------------
9's on a Grimmspeed TMIC and a little EFR7163?????? No Problem! 9.97@132mph...
Got my single digit pass on my first run ever at MIR during their last test and tune session of the year 11/27/16
-----------------------------------------------------------------

2016 UPDATE----------------------------------------------------
Couldn't get into the 9s this weekend, but got my record a bit lower with a 10.12 @136mph. I will give it another shot in a couple weeks, I managed to cut a 1.37 60ft my other pass but the car got way too sideways in 2nd gear and I had to bail. This pass I only cut a 1.46 and had a slight hesitation in my drive and shifting from getting scared by this out of control mustang lol
-----------------------------------------------------------------

***2015 UPDATE*** JUST WENT TO THE TRACK ON 8/21/15 AND TOOK THE OVERALL SUBARU TMIC RECORD.
I got 4 Passes in and ran 10.25, 10.19, 10.18, and 10.17. All 4 passes with 1.4x 60fts and 1.40 was my best. I will be shooting for 1.3x 60fts and 9.9s next time I go.

10.18 run pits view
10.18 gopro view
10.17 run pits view

Crossing 500wtq by 3700 RPM is just insane for a turbo that makes 550AWHP on a EJ257 Keep in mind this a short gear 06 sti trans, 4th gear on 07+ STi would appear to spool much quicker

While I was building the motor last year in my garage (several parts in this picture are different now of course)

And a few more pictures of the car and the building process

Want to thank Ron especially for spending countless hours with me to get this beast dialed in 100% remotely. He has tuned all my different setups over the last few years and also tuned a lot of my friends cars that I have help setup locally with great results each and every time. I highly recommend him if you are looking to get an E-tune... Also If you live in CA or nearby just go visit his shop in person to get a protune on his dyno, he has the most professional and nicest dyno room setup I've ever seen.

Here's the 9 second time slip from 11/27/16 @ MIR

Here's the time slips from 8/21/15 @ VMP

Here's a time slip from 2014 @ Richmond Dragway when it only made about 510whp with a couple different parts and less boost.

Torque curve/spool looks like a stage 2 except the numbers doubled. "Nasti" build and tune dude lol.

Good stuff. I wonder how the stock location vs rotated setup varies on this turbo. I have the stock location 7163 vband kit for my 2011 sti but it is only at 20psi because of the actuator that was maxed out :/

Wow what a powerband! And a nice 10 sec pass at Richmond Dragway too. People laugh when I tell them I've ran my best times at that track when compared to VA Motorsports park I guess the ****ty track prep there just works well for AWD cars!

Surprisingly enough, I haven't seen too much of a difference in power difference. We have a guy here in NOVA rocking a low mounted 7163 and he actually pushes nearly identical power on E85 with similar boost plots. He later opted for a twin scroll version to gain more spool and i think it reduced his overall top end by 15hp. He's an autocross junkie and needs as much power down low as possible

Exactly what I wanted to avoid, iv heard of people having nothing but issues holding real high boost on IWG EFRs even with high boost actuators. Plus EWG dumping will always be best, also the EFR will measure in under a foot long Another good thing about rotated is you really open up the intake track for smoother and cleaner airflow into the turbo inlet. You wouldnt believe the gains I got from my new smooth and short intake setup I just recently put together. Most people only think about making the exhaust side smooth and efficient and overlook the airflow thats rushing thru the turbo inlet @ over 200mph at this diameter and power level.

lol, I heard the same thing from all my buddies they say ill run atleast .5 sec faster at VMP but iv been avoiding the drive and just go to richmond drag every time. However this year the track seemed even worst and downright scary TBH. Left lane is sloped off to the left and sucks you off the track (I couldnt even stay in it thru 3rd gear first pass last week) and the right lane has a big ass patch of rocky road and bumps between the 1000' and 1320', scared the **** out of me last week and car got unstable going across it at 130mph I had to lift before finish line but still trapped 132.4mph while clutch slipped slightly all the way down. Once I install the new clutch ill be going to VMP forsure this time

Default intake flow is important!

I couldn't agree more!!!
Very similar set-up except no e85, just 94 & meth.

With my .8 A/R TS 7163, I just did a nice intake flow improvement and immediately noticed 1 point less vacuum at idle and quicker response at every rpm. Running a 2 port IWG and 4 port valve.

Just curious, what do you see for IAT's at the end of a run? I've got a 6758 and a similar TMIC and without a water sprayer I'm seeing 170's after a 2-3-4 pull at 27 psi.

Lots of crazy and cool stuff going on in that engine bay lol looks wild. Nice car man. What kinda power are you making on 94 and meth?

E85 is key. I haven't bought a single gallon of 93 in about a year now

IATs rise 19-20 degrees on 4th gear Vdyno pulls 2000-7000rpm. IATs rise about 39-40 degrees going thru all the gears (1-5) like at a dragstrip. What TMIC you running? Also I dont think the water sprayer really makes much difference lol I just press it before drag passes because its there and fun to press Mabey ill try and press it next time I do a 4th gear VD and see if I notice any difference

I'm using the ETS STi TMIC. I'll see about a 50-60 degree rise over a 2-4 pull without any water spraying. I autox the car so I've been fighting high IATs since the top speed is usually less than 70 mph but it's constantly high RPM. I use a water sprayer to cool the core off after a run and I can see in the logs where efficiency is better at the beginning of a run where it's still wet. I'd guess for the drag runs with the water you're feeding it a lot more air with the benefit of water spraying to keep it in line.

Thanks for the data point

I have basically the same build plus some headwork but my 7163 did 422whp and 460ftlbs of torque at 24psi on E85. I am at 5000ft elevation and it was on a dyno dynamics instead of a dyno jet....Think the numbers are comparable or somethings up?

Did you notice any improvements in spool with a larger inlet pipe as apposed to just using a 2.5" diameter pipe...My inlet goes for about 1.5' of 2.5" pipe and I was thinking that could be somewhat of a restriction of airflow....I've seen more and more use a 3" or 3.5" diameter pipe and reducing it down at the compressor housing.

I used to have a ETS TMIC and IATs shot up way higher then the grimmspeed black coated tmic I use now (almost similar to your results). We almost thought it was just from IAT mounting error it was so extreme of a difference, but i remounted it on another spot and it was the same thing.

You need to run more boost and you should see very nice gains all the way up to 30psi or so... 24psi is what vf39 e85 cars run lol

I think a 3" intake pipe works best on this turbo as its just a very minor smooth step down at the inlet and seems to work much better then the 3.5" pipe I used before
