20ish psi, E85 and 800cc injectors = .........
Well I found out how much 800cc injectors and E85 makes….
Not much. The motor made a max of 288 whp/330ish torque @ 21 psi and ran out of injector @ 6000 rpm. Turning the boost down to 19 psi was 265 whp with a moderately safe tune. But the MAF was hitting 5 volts with the piggyback adding in voltage up top…. This was done @ PRE on a DynoDynamics dyno. Sorry, neglected to get a dyno sheet. The torqe and power curves were good up until 5000-5500 rpm when I would start to degrade a bit. I was having some missing issues (we were pretty sure it wasnt det), and this could have been old sparkplugs. The AFR line was pretty damn ugly. "Safe" but ugly. The Walbro 255 just wasnt able to pump enough down low 4000-5000 rpm, then the fuel pressure would ramp up some due to the boost level, then the MAF would run out. Since it may be awhile before I find (if ever) 1200cc sidefeeds, I am switching back to gas, as I have made 100+ more hp with the same setup. Ah well, I just wanted to see what the injectors and E85 was good for, and now I know.

Can you explain the MAF and how its almost maxing out? I had this happen with my v7ej205 and a zilla series super 16g on modded stock injectors.
My tuner said the MAF was maxed out and I have never really heard about that. And now that you have said something here in this post I was hoping you could explain it and how to fix it?! Thanks, Oh and nice torque!!!! |

I think Red is running an EM system that scales the MAF 0-5V to correlate to 0-800cc flow for his injectors. He may not be reaching the physical limitations of the MAF the ECU makes it look like 5 volts and then it knows it needs 100% injector flow.
Red, feel free to jump in here and correct me but I think we've talked about this before. Nick, the stock ECU and most of the high dollar standalones don't scale the injectors and MAF voltage together and most don't start maxing out the MAF physically until >20G size turbos unless they have head work and free flowing setups. What kind of EM do you have Nick? |

Why don't you switch to Topfeeds?

I have seen huge #'s on E85 in comparsion to pump gas. I'm sure something was wrong with the state of tune or the tune of your motor (you can run more lean, in terms of lamba, than you do gasoline, and you can add a bit of timing back in too).
If I'm telling you things you already know, and you have messed with that, why not bump up the fuel pressure? I thought I have seen guys run fp's on walbro 255hp pumps pretty darn high (70/80/90 psi, I would have to search). |

Kelly is correct, I am running a basic SMT6 (perfectpower6).
To switch to topfeeds, I would need different heads. |

Its ALL in the ability to flow MOORRRREEEEE fuel.
I am able to make 400 whp on high octane gas, but because E85 requires 30% fuel to make the same power levels, I am limited by the max fuel that I can flow. Now if I had larger injectors, say 1200cc, then I would be able to go OVER 400whp because I could turn up the boost AND not run out of fuel. |

Add another 255 in-tank.
example:the buscher double pumper setup. Will give you a bit more headroom with the injectors you are running iirc. |

um maxing the maf is just that in the tube u have... the amount of air (the speed) is making the maf say 5v (the maximum voltage) if u had a larger tube, the air would be moving slower making the maf sensor send 3v volts..

Its a modifed maf already. 400 whp was only about 4.8ish... premium plus torco.

Is 1200cc all you're looking for or do you want some more headroom. I may have found somthing.

Hey Kelly,
Thanks for the reply. I am running an Ecutek ecu. Its on a jdm ej205 with a good amount of supporting mods. So what you are saying is, the ecu is basically "tricking" the car into thinking it is maxing out the MAF but in reality it isnt? And Cquirki, you are saying to step up to a 70mm intake instead of my 65mm? Without looking I think thats what I have. An APS 65mm intake. My tuner suggested I go with a bigger intake and thus a bigger MAF. I just think its not necessary because so many other people are making much better numbers, running more than my 17psi with normal intakes, MAF's etc. Just not adding up here? |
